VAR required now surely to God for offsides as tight as this.

    Morecambe's 5th today v Burton.

That’s just looks like the linesman has forgotten what the offside rule is. Unless there’s a defender out of shot that is making it a closer call than it appears then he shouldn’t be allowed to officiate in a professional game again. Even the ref could’ve given that one as well

I suspect there’s a player out of shot and /or the angle makes it look worse.

Surely the ref questioned his judgement. If not, he's just as much to blame.

yeah I didn't tbf, I just assumed there had to be more to it than it being as offside as it looks

If there was a player out of shot he never ran back. And you have a convenient halfway line to use as a reference. It’s a terrible decision.

The biased comms to be fair. I have to assume there’s something on the near side out of the camera frame that makes it less obvious than it seems here.

And the EFL back these officials to the hilt. Nobody can say anything wrong about them without getting fined or suspended. Beginning to think they are as corrupt as FIFA

And your reasoning for that despite all the evidence is?

If there was a defender near side 10 yards behind the rest of the defence surely he would be running back but he never appears in shot.

Also in the clip and extended version in the highlights the only Burton player not seen is the striker Dodoo. It's possible he's hanging around behind his defence but more probable that he's up front which is why so many Morecambe defenders have stayed so deep on the right of the video.

Also here is how far offside he is when the ball is on its way back to the Morecambe player who then hit it long to him
    [IMG]

And when the ball is travelling back up the pitch towards him this is when the deepest defender reappears in shot. You'll notice that the striker is so far up the pitch at this point that his shadow isn't even on screen at all
    [IMG]

I took these frame from the highlights using frame by frame extractor which shows that from the second to third images is 2.3 seconds. So if we exclude the theory that the Burton striker is randomly stood near the corner flag then based on the fact that the Burton defenders are in basically the exact same place in both shots then the only real reason it could not be offside is if the Morecambe striker has, in the space of 2.3 seconds, turned around, ran back ten yards to make himself onside then turned back round again and sprinted so far up the pitch that his shadow isn't even in the frame. All without the Burton defenders reacting at all.

Personally I think it's far more likely that he's a mile off. In fact I think I know exactly what's happened.
In the seconds before the clip we've all seen the same Morecambe player tries a killer ball through to the same striker (He's offside then too by the way) but as the Burton full back slides and cuts out the pass the linesman keeps his flag down like he should do. The ball pings back to that same Morecambe player directly from the sliding block and I think the clown of a linesman has somehow got it into his head that because the ball didn't make it to the attacker initially then he can completely discount him as being offside. As the ball is once again immediately hit back up the pitch to him the linesman is still thinking 'he can't be off because the defender just cut the pass out' and has somehow missed the fact that the ball has been passed forward to him a second time and thus he's offside for a second time.

    Shambolic really.

Oh also the striker himself when congratulated on his goal in an interview with the Morecambe website said (completely unprompted) "I think I was probably offside but the linesman's not put his flag up so I'll take it".

I need to get a hobby

You'll have to wait until 3 o'clock at Oakwell to see that.

Based on blind hope that surely no assistant ref could get it so wrong... But apparently he did.
