Growing up Frank Lampard was my idol. But i am the first to admit now... Just because you are an amazing player for club and country it doesn't automatically mean you will be a world class manager.
Great players don't always make great managers because they've had it their own way for the majority of their careers. They aren't used to losing either. They've had it all from contracts to trophies. To suddenly have none of that is shock to the system. No surprise at all that him, Gerrard and Rooney have been failures thus far.
I'm surprised Trevor Brooking never took the West Ham job. That season he took over too late to save them but he had a great run of results.
Just because you’re a good footballer, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a clue about football. Plenty of ‘pundits’ prove that.
Part of the problem with great footballers is when they become a manager is they have played with other really good ones then they have to work with inferior ones. Personally I wouldn’t judge him too harshly on the Everton job , they have been a mess for years.
My mate is friends with Everton u21 manager - he's said Lampard won't be around for much longer. U21 manager told by Kenwright he'll be the interim boss
If Carlo Ancelotti can’t do anything with Everton, I don’t think the blame can be put squarely at Lampard’s door. Sometimes decent managers/coaches aren’t the right fit for a club, But Everton have had Koeman, Allerdyce, Silva, Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez… none of them have achieved much and some of them have had a lot of money to spend.
If there's any bloke living off his playing days it's Lampard great player did a decent job at Derby with a massive helping hand from Chelsea how got the job at Chelsea is beyond me. Only just kept Everton up and failing yet again
Whilst I’m not convinced he’ll be a great manager I don’t think he did a horrendous job at derby or Chelsea, considering the restraints he had at Chelsea particularly - and Everton have been rotting from the head down for many a year so I wouldn’t apportion too much at his feet to be honest. I think they will sack him and they will bring someone in with a name, he’ll get enough results to keep them up and it may just end up the same next season unless there’s big changes behind the scenes. It’ll be a lovely big new stadium for championship football if not. As for Lampard, he will get another job if he decides he wants to carry on. As will Gerrard.
How he pulled Jenny Seagrove, still baffles me. You’d think he’d be able to sort out a decent football manager..?
Not sure you can put Rooney in the managers failure bracket yet.......was fighting uphill battle at Derby......I reckon he came out of that job with his reputation still intact myself......many a manager would have walked well before he did...
When Chelsea sacked Lampard they were 9th in the league. They're now 10th. Don't know what this means like, but it's a funny stat.
He has achieved very little as a manager/head coach. I would be surprised if he was still in a job at the end of the month. I cannot see him being hired by any other Premier or Championship clubs.
Did okay at Derby but with the players they had should have got them promoted. Failed everywhere since surprised he hasn't been sacked yet. Steven Gerrards another one great player ***** manager.
Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, both great players and managers. Bobby Charlton and Alan Shearer, great players but poor managers. I don't think there is a golden rule.
