There’s a few Hecky digs so I won’t quote just the one - but I thought it was pretty much agreed that the signing of all the 10’s in one go was not his doing, nor even at his request and happened despite him saying he wanted players in other areas (like a centre forward for a start, running theme…). And as for the Sheff Utd squad, I’m not sure how many of their team would get in Burnley’s first XI, and I’m not sure their squad is that much better on paper than a few others; West Brom was mentioned, Norwich’s squad is ok too. I’m not saying he’s Bill Shankly but he did a good job here, in difficult circumstances latterly as well, and when he left, as bitter as how it came about and where he went, the club didn’t exactly discourage him from doing so did they? I think he’s doing a great job at Sheff Utd to be honest, and the fact that Brewster and McBurnie cost them a fortune is completely irrelevant - one, because he didn’t sign them, and two, their price doesn’t make them actually any good. McBurnie is actually having his first good goal scoring run since that short period with us and the following season with Swansea; he’d done nothing in between. This is Hecky’s first full season with a team he’s put together so he ought to take some of that credit you’d argue. Brewster cost the best part of £25million and has provided 4 league goals in 2.5 years. Hardly a shining endorsement of his brilliance… I don’t think their squad is top two necessarily to be honest, it’s definitely top four or five but I still think he’s doing well.
My Tranmere supporting friend reckons he’s a left winger who fails to beat a defender and wouldn’t lose any sleep over him moving on. So it’s probably nailed on he’s coming here on the last day of the window.
How about Vydra. Needs to get up to speed for his current club in Czech. Loan deal be amazing. Affinity’s with our manager
He is doing OK to say he is a coach without a clue. Maybe we should get a coach that's good. Cos as soon as we start losing ,Duffy won't have a clue.
I always wanted us to sign any player called "vydra", just because it means "water rat" in most Slavic languages.
He's had 3 good seasons in his career, which surprised me a bit. Always looked well when I saw him. I also thought he was a little older, he's only 30!
Agree. At the time he was literally giving press conferences saying he needed another striker in so he could play 4-4-2 & that we had too many number 10’s days before Stevie Malian joined. For anybody to say that was his choice is ludicrous. Sheff Utd do have a good squad but players like McBurnie & Brewster were laughing stocks. Lots of Sheff Utd fans would’ve happily seen both leave in the summer. Surely you have to give credit when a manager turns round the fortunes of a player like McBurnie who’d had two dreadful seasons before Hecky took over. It’s easy to say on paper they’ve got a good squad so they should be doing well but you’ve only got to look at the Stoke’s, Huddersfield, West Brom, Boro, Swansea, Cardiff etc at how easy it is to struggle when you’ve been relegated recently & half the squad are on premier league money & half are on championship wages & it’s easy for team spirit to be lost. A bit like us last season when Oulare & Leya Iseka are two of the biggest earners & contributing nothing.
Hecky went on record saying that he wouldn't play any players he didn't want and that he had the final say on every signing. He has a great squad at Sheffield United and they have managed to keep many players from the Premier league they have alot of experienced Premier league players. He turned a play off chasing Leeds team into relegation form and ended up getting them 3 wins in half a season 1 against us who were awful. Then bielsa took the same team got them in the play offs then promoted as champions. He took hibs and and had them in the relegation places before been sacked a team who should be top 5. He even took some of the players he signed at Barnsley to hibs Adam Jackson. A played who he picked over ethan pinnock at Barnsley. Not saying he's doing a bad job at Sheffield United he isn't like many on here knock stendel as he had a great squad for league one and "should" have got us promoted that season. Let's not play it down Sheffield United have a great squad for the championship and should be getting promoted
In fairness he didn’t play Stevie Malian until he didn’t really have a choice through injury. A managers never going to say he’s not having a say on transfers. The minute he does he’s done for. If a manager gives a press conference saying he doesn’t want to sign anymore attacking midfielders & another one joins within a week we know that isn’t a managerial decision. I don’t agree Sheff Utd should necessarily be getting promoted. They should be in the mix but there’s better teams that came down. Norwich on paper are better for example. Stendel did a cracking job. There’s parallels between Mowatt & McBurnie, two players that had been terrible for two years but both turned it round even though their careers looked to be on a downwards trajectory. You have to give the managers some credit in them scenarios. There’s not many managers who do well everywhere they go or badly everywhere they go. He was great at Barnsley, **** at Leeds, started really well at Hibs & then it went **** in the second season. Doing great at Sheff Utd so far but at some stage he’ll probably have a bad run & get sacked, that’s just how it goes.
How about Macauley Bonne, who has just been released by QPR. I would imagine that he will be heading for Ipswich, which is his home-town club, but might be worth an enquiry to his agent. Consistent scorer at League One level and I think that we may have been after him previously. The Crystal Palace rumour is a strange one, as both Plange and Rak-Sakyi are out on loan for the season. Would be delighted to see wither/both in a red shirt, but just wonder how likely it would be. Plange? Distinctly possible, especially if he wants to come back to the UK, but Rak-Sakyi? I would have thought he was settled at Charlton Athletic, being in London and his getting regular games. We'll see.
Plange was left out of Molenbeek's last game. Not sure whether he's injured or not, but considering he's featured in every game since the middle of September prior, it's interesting given the rumours that he's about to be recalled. I can't see Rak-Sakyi being anywhere other than Charlton for the rest of the season. But then again, Morgan Whittaker has just been recalled from Plymouth and looks set to go to Ipswich, which is an odd move unless there's a fee involved, so you never know I guess. I'm hoping for Thomas Cannon. Not featured for Everton since Calvert-Lewin's return from injury, and whilst Everton aren't blessed with striking options, I see him being loaned out this month to gain experience.
If you had no say in your signings you wouldn't take them to your next club. He also went on record saying he had watched ugbo for a while at chelsea u23s and believed he could make the step up. He signed so many midfielders and played a 451 which people said was forced on him but he went on to play 451 at Leeds and hibs. He was good with us until Connor was sold then it all went pear shaped. Some of the **** ups he made were awful. Playing Mowatt on the left wing then loaning him out. Having pinnock as a 4th choice. I wasn't a fan of his public slating of young players either to deflect the blame. I always think hecky could do no wrong when here in many fans eyes with the Barnsley connection and how he would deflect the blame from himself in interviews fans would have happily sang he's one of our own while he took us to league 2. He's doing good at Sheffield United not overachiving but doing well.
Feast or Famine ,problem fans are very fickle and don't see the bigger picture. Unless they know someone from the inside. I know of some details regards Heckys departure. Best to stay a fan and not knowing the politics of what is really going on behind close doors. That was one thing Patrick told me as a owner. He much preferred being just a fan.
