The reds have reached the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in 12 months. At this stage last year, we snuck past Barrow in what was a game so long, I actually had to shave twice during the course of it. The early betting has us as 14/5 outsiders against a Derby team in good home form. The rams are 7 unbeaten at home in all competitions, including 3 consecutive home wins in the league and a 9-0 aggregate scoreline across those. Our record at Derby is poor, with just 2 wins this century (13 visits), the most recent of which was under lockdown conditions with goals from Conor Chaplin and Victor Adeboyejo being the difference. In fact, the aforementioned 2 victories are our only ones in Derby in 20 visits, stretching back to the early 80s. What does stand us in good stead is that history seems to go out of the window in Cup games, as proven in the first round where we defeated Bolton. Our record in Derby is marginally better than our record at Bolton. We are currently on a run of just 12 away defeats in 12, with 7 victories in that time, and are in much better shakes than we were when losing to Derby back in August. Andersen will be a huge loss, however Edwards coming back in addresses that to a certain degree. The return of Phillips and Aitchison also help add depth to the squad which looked paper thin last week when we really needed to change things up. Hopefully Watters has been signed in time to have some involvement too. Ever the optimist, I'm going for a 1-2 win with Connell and Kane on the scoresheet.
Derby are in great form (appreciate we were prior to Bolton too), imperious at home, we never win at Pride Park other than when no fans are allowed in. 2-1 Dorbeh, like virtually every other time I've been there
It’s been apparent this season that we don’t seem to be getting into threatening positions in the oppositions box and hence get the odd penalty. However, things will change and we’ll win 2-0 with 2 penalties
2-1 Derby, They’ll be cruising at 2-0 then we’ll get a late goal to give them squeaky bum time, but it’ll prove to be just a consolation goal. Derby will then draw a big Prem club at home in the next round
I mean, given the choice I'd rather win. A replay does us few favours in terms of our league form which ultimately is the priority.
