Joe left Newcastle in recent years, he was academy director for about 15 years - apparently the reason he left was because his missus didn't like how the club treated his son when he was in the academy after an injury... I'd take him here Joe, that is
I seem to hold an unpopular opinion, I really couldn't care less if Williams went. He's got pace, there's no denying that. But what else does he actually do? Positionally he's not terrible, but he's nothing special. His passing is average, his deliveries into the box aren't on the same planet has Cadden's. He's also pretty lightweight, and picks up injuries and knocks for fun. I really don't see the reason for the adulation he seems to be drawing from certain quarters. The only issue I would have with him leaving would be that the club would replace him with a player who is worse, or failing that, they wouldn't replace him at all. All that being said, whilever he has that red shirt on, I'll back him, but be under no illusion, we've had better in that position, and worse. I suppose, to sum up, I'm just "meh" on Williams.
Hand on heart mate, do you genuinely believe majority of other club owners are in it for the football club? Seriously?
Yeah its a question I keep asking myself. We've always had to tell ourselves that we're a selling club, apparently. But the turnover of players coming in and going out these days, is just ridiculous. Made even worse as well by the fact that we don't seem to make a profit on any of them!.
He's been excellent for us this season. Not always consistent over the years but that can also be down to his injuries & age. I know we've dropped a league but I think so far, he's come on leaps and bounds as a player, he's more consistent than he used to be, versatile, quick, determined, and seems to be taking more chances when he's running at opposition. His crossing isn't always great but he has improved. 6 goals/assists from 20 games in a low scoring team from right wing back is more than credible in my opinion bud. I thought he was very good at RCB under Struber and wasn't quite up to being a RB/RWB, but I think he's proven me wrong this season so far.
Average player, league 1 standard. I'd be more concerned about us been able to replace him with someone better.
It's worth noting by the way, that the rumours of Williams to Preston started before Duff confirmed we'd had no bids for any players. Which to me says its nonsense.
Best player at the club for me. Honestly think we'd struggle to find someone else with his pace and first touch within budget.
But that's just the way football is mate. Every other club are in our position, unless they're one of the elites. To call this new board spineless is a bit unjust at the minute. Maybe theyll be as bad as the old board, maybe not
I disagree with that bud. I think Andersen, Connell & probably Collins is above him. Losing Andersen would be a massive blow, but I do actually think as it stands, losing Williams is more of a loss at the minute than Connell & especially Collins.
If we got decent money (and it’s reinvested) let him go. If we carry out our usual policy of selling for 50 pence - don’t. Decent money would be £4/500k.
