Four ex reds on the pitch 3 brought in under PC's tenure and the fourth while still using JC's spread sheet model.
Mate, come on... He wasn't great for us, was he? Winnall, Fletcher & even when Watkins played up top, they all looked better... Nobody in their right minds would expect him to have done what he's done. It's 7 years ago when he played for us. I don't get comments like this. Can't tell if its a dig at fans or old board but either way, it's daft.
One goal in fifteen games. There's no apparently about it, he simply wasn't good enough for us at the time.
He's in the file with Jonathan Walters, Jay Rodriguez and Chris Wood. All looked more likely to end up in a call centre than the Premier League during their time at Oakwell.
Shows how players need to find a good home where they are given the opportunity to play every week and then develop, no young player should be judged on a handful of bit part performance's.
I think that his first few years, like so many others, were harmed by the fairly modern issue of big clubs hoovering up dozens of players with no intention of playing them for years. It gives the player an overinflated sense of importance and ability and means that when they inevitably get loaned to lower league clubs they walk around like Billy big ******** and don't really try at all because they see it as below them. Their career then goes one of these ways. They either get lucky and get an opportunity that puts them in the spotlight and the career takes off, they act like ***** and throw their careers away completely (like half of our previous loan signings) or they go from lower league club to lower league club where they eventually knuckle down and they earn a move to a better club and their career takes off massively just a few years too late. It doesn't sum up every young player at a big club but it does sum up most who are there and believed the hype and thought they'd get instant success
He was 19 ffs same age as Marsh is now. He scored some important goals the amount of stick he got was a joke. If he's worth that how much is cauley worth??
Your probably right but ultimately the ones that do well must have the talent to do so and just need regular football to prove it.
I'm not trying to insult him bud, my point was defending the board who didn't sign him at the time. That's what i took from his comment. Now had he smashed the league up and scored 20 goals and we had chance to sign him and didn't, fair enough, blame the board. But nobody in their right minds expected him to be as good as he has been.
I don't remember exactly, but I always thought Rodriguez was alright for us in his 5/6 games? Didn't look a donkey like Walters/Wood/Ugbo iirc?
He was this. He was that. I thought he did o.k as a target man stroke winger, whatever he was and served Barnsley F.C well. However, If these "allegations" are "proven" it doesn't detract from the fact he's become a wonderful footballer and the service he gave Barnsley F.C. It will temper my opinion of him as a man. I think some things mean more. You can be biggest arsehole in world but nothing without integrity. I hope he's found not guilty because he comes across as a fine young man.
To be honest, if (as is alleged) he bet only on other teams' games I think he has his integrity intact. He's just a bit of an idiot for not following the rules.
The board did try sign him when we sold moore I think even the posh chairman confirmed this toney wanted the move but posh weren't keen to sell to us. At the time we were linked our fans on here and social media were moaning like ****. I didn't expect him to be as good as he has but it was pretty obvious he had talent at 19 very strong and fast good at holding the ball up. Was only going to get better.
