From The Sun via Mr Nixon: We are after Manchester United right back Charlie Wellens and Jordan Williams is off to PNE.
Would be a bit surprised at the PNE connection. As much as I like williams. He's far too inconsistent for me to play at that level.
Apparently Wellens has struggled for a game at Oldham. If we sell a first team regular and replace him with someone that can’t get a game in non-league then I’d be fully on board with the inevitable social media meltdown. Will believe it when I see it. There might be something to both stories, but hopefully the club wait till they’ve identified a genuine replacement before entertaining any offers.
So we’ve gone from a policy of not bringing other clubs players on to a Statue of Liberty with inscription bring us your poor, injured and Utter dross , the wretched refuse of your bottom of the barrel.
He’ll have impressive stats on the spreadsheet. Unfortunately the spreadsheet doesn’t tell you that having impressive stats in non league doesn’t automatically mean he would be able to make the step up to league football.
He's recently trained with our 21s. Not sure if he's still here. Huge transfer story from 'reluctant' Alan Nixon.
Yeah look at George Williams, Marc Roberts, ethan pinnock... oh wait.. Do we even use "the spreadsheet" anymore? I know it wasn't used last season when we signed oulare and iseka and I doubt Norwood was on it.
We will use data to inform recruitment. Like every other team. It’s not a new thing anymore. I’ll never understand why people refer to ‘the spreadsheet’ as this terrible thing. How do people expect the Club to make recruitment decisions? Bloke in the pub?
According to Nixon the guy who scored Charlton's second yesterday was coming to us a fortnight ago. He's just a 'tool' (in more than one respect) of agents.
Jordans one of our more experienced players, and to replace him with Wellens, beggers belief, but were only fans, what do we know.
I'm sure that we do, but unfortunately so do the other clubs who have always paid more! Maybe our focus on specific types of data gave us a slight advantage for a season or two, but even if that's the case everybody else has almost certainly caught up by now.
That's not true is it.. he never said that. What he said was that us and a few other clubs where interested in bringing him in on a loan
You send an ex pro who is charitably employed as a scout to watch him a couple of times and sign him based on his snap decision. That's obviously the best way to do things.
