I think there’s been a resurgence of homophobia & misogyny (to name but two) from the time of the referendum & a prime minister who promoted it. It’s incredibly sad that you & your team have had to hear this pig ignorant attitude spoken out loud. I’m glad you’ve reported them & hope the Neanderthals are fully dealt with.

I watched a program last night about Top of the Pops. Apparently, when Pan's People were binned off, there was a M/F mixed race dancing troupe for a short while. I don't even remember them. I thought it switched straight away to Legs and Co. Anyway, this group didn't last 5 minutes because apparently, the controller of BBC1 said "No one wants to see black men dancing with white girls".

So yes, in terms of societal attitudes, in relation to race and sexuality, we have moved on massively. It really is "Life on Mars" comparing then to now. But society still has a disturbing number of people who are frankly thick as sh.it. I don't envisage that we'll ever rid ourselves of the morons. They just need calling out.

The alarming thing for me is that they are allowed to vote.

Fired - totally support what you say.

Have you reported the incident to the Shaw Lane Trustees/Management - the men who were doing the abusing and the whole team should be banned from Shaw Lane.

So sorry you had to hear that. The problem broadly sits with ignorant men, who themselves are broadly the product of ignorant men. Breaking that cycle of generations, hundreds of years, is gonna be hard to eradicate. The situation is getting better no doubt, but I’m under no illusion that societally we’re still miles away from where we need to be.

    This was in Rotherham.
    Yes it’s been reported.
The people involved were the last ones leaving their pitch, so the other players will be unaware of an issue.
The venue is taking it up with the club/ group concerned. To be fair to the venue, they have taken it seriously.

It isn't helped by the inclusivity and mis-appropriation card sometimes being overplayed. Yet again the debate over straight actors playing LGBTQ has started up again. Now I am not saying that 'blacking up' for a white actor to play a black man is in any way acceptable (Laurence Olivier as Othello for example) but we are talking physical appearance and race here and there are many fine actors of all different races and ethnicities around these days for casting agents and dirctors to choose from.
However, arguing that only LGBTQ actors should be chosen for roles depicting the same is ridiculous for two reasons:
You don't have to be an ex President of the United States to play the POTUS, or a ex 5 star general to play Patten in a war movie. it is called acting!! The best depiction or portrayal of a character in a screen test or audition is what matters.
Secondly, given that overtly or discreetly gay characters are in the minority and applying the same rule that only heterosexual actors should play heterosexual roles, then many fine LGBTQ actors would be frozen out of many roles they would excel in.
The common criticism levelled mainly by the LGBTQ community is that they were left unconvinced by the portrayal of the gay character by a straight actor. In reality, that is basically a criticism of the performance. A good and great actors often give outstanding convincing performances playing parts out of their comfort zone and beyond their real life experiences. That does not justify ring-fencing parts simply based on specific gender orientation. Every positive has a negative!

If straight actors aren't allowed to play gay roles then surely the reverse should be true.
If an actor is convincing in the role it's immaterial what his/her sexual orientation is.
Plus what defines a convincing portrayal? I've known gays who are outrageously, unmistakably gay and ones who you'd never guess are gay unless you know them and those who are degrees in between the two. There's nothing wrong with any of the iterations and no reason whatsoever that a good straight actor can't capture the essence of the role.
The whole point surely is there are absolutely no demarcations between straight and gay.
By the way, I'm not disagreeing with your point.

I know “blacking up” is no longer acceptable and consider racist but is the film white chick also the same, I remember watching it a few years ago and never giving it a thought.

This is all too true unfortunately. Parents also need to step up and teach the right attitudes
