Ishmael rated him and he looked good when he played Schopp didnt rate him and so he was dropped and then offloaded one of the managers was wrong wonder which it was
Link on BBC has a figure of £400K. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64389459 We’ll have a sell on clause right? Edit: found the link for when we sold him: https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2022/january/sibbick-departs/ I guess no sell on then.
Let's be right he was a scapegoat alot of the time but val brought him out choosing him over sol for his pace at the back. Could always see he had potential.
We signed him from Wimbledon where he was playing centre half, we ended up playing him everywhere but. Young kid that made a big jump to championship football and wasn't ready, never mind played in his natural position.
Am I missing something here or not read the links properly as I’ve seen nothing about a NO sell-on clause only Undisclosed. Is it because he moved to Scotland perhaps?
No way will Hearts get £2m for Sibbick. Scottish football doesn't generally attract fees like that. Blackpool have apparently offered £400k and had it turned down. Reckon £700k would probably get him. Still ridiculous that between Schopp and Asbaghi they managed to give him away.
Does it surprise you 2 of the worst head coaches I've seen at oakwell. But let's not rewrite history sibbick was slated at his time here on social media and wrote off by many his departure was mixed.
I liked Toby Sibbick but I don't think selling him was a mistake. At the time we had a bloated squad and he wasn't first or even second choice in his preferred positions. He needed first team football to develop and the club needed income in a vain attempt to stay in the Championship. The mistake was not including a buy back clause or a significant sell on percentage. Other than that, I'm glad it's working out for him at Hearts and building a good career for himself. I can envisage us having this conversation again in a few years time with Jasper Moon.
I rated sibbick could see he had potential he played v Leeds at hone as a cdm and was the best player on the park, played a big role in the defence under val and his pace kept sol out of the team. I couldn't believe schopp and poya kept picking moon seemed to play him in every position and he made mistake after mistake it was obvious he was far from championship quality. I saw potential in sibbick if moon makes it and plays in the championship again ill hold my hands up because I can't see it.
Fairly certain he played on the right wing for Wimbledon. As you say though, he seemed to settle once he was put in his best position.
Get the impression that there were more non-footballing reasons for his dropping, than footballing reasons. The biggest shame is that shortly after he left, Williams got injured which left us needing a player with pace that could play either in a back 3 or at right back. But we probably needed to offload someone to be able to bring in Quina and Bassi, so can understand it.
Pretty sure that although the chuckle brothers may have both said he was not in their plans and could go, as head Coach, they would not have had a say in the financial negotiations. That would have been our esteemed CEO?
Sibbick was sold because he had played 49 league appearances in the championship and playing 50 would have triggered an additional payment to AFC Wimbledon as part of the transfer agreement.
