Doubt that would work for teams like Plymouth & Exeter who travel great distances nearly every away game
Not been following it all day was the 4.30 pitch inspection relayed in any way even if it was this is plain wrong. Until there is some kind of consequences of teams calling gsmes or refs for that matter, the fans will keep getting the shitty end of a very shitty stick.
Wouldn't have happened if Don Mellor was referee. Once went to Farm Road when it was -2C, All games off so we sat.in changing rooms waiting for Mellor to call ours off. He turned up ready changed a couple of minutes before kick off and told us to get ready. Called.us wusses. We were the only game played that day. He kicked off when we only had 8 men on the pitch. Game ended 0-0 and about half a dozen of us ended up with grazes down our thighs.
The ref won't have made it down himself until around the time it was called off. First thing he would have done would be a pitch inspection. That being the case, I always thought that in these circumstances, the club agree with the EFL to get a local ref in to make the call early instead of waiting until the match ref arrives. Absolutely and shamefully p.iss poor by all concerned. The fans mean fk all. Its just wrong. This is 100% on Exeter. They should be made to compensate the fans who travelled.
Just travelling back I messaged Exeter yesterday and got a reply no problem then messaged today at about 13.30 that was seen but ignored.
Theres not really anything on their social media about the pitch since this morning when they gave the impression all was good. Poor considering they had promised updates throughout the day
we once played on a frozen pitch covered in snow that then packed down, I made one run out of defence beating four men because I couldn’t stop and they couldn’t turn quickly. Have to say it was one of the most fun days I had on a football pitch!
Not much consolation for fans, but what's to stop the fixture being rescheduled for tomorrow? Forcast is 9 degrees.
ECFC put a tweet out this morning to say they’d provide regular updates on ‘this morning’s improving conditions’. Next update was at 4.45 saying match off…
Wow I'm fuming for the 300+ that have made the 10hr journey to be treated like that hang your head in shame Exeter City.
The worst postponement since the game at Plymouth we were winning easily. Every single fan should be properly compensated and our club the costs of everything as well. It should have been called off yesterday, but then in this day and age all Football League clubs should have the things necessary to make sure every game is always on regardless of weather.
Just read the Exeter forum. Apparently, there were areas of the pitch that were still a cause for concern early afternoon. FFS, get a local ref in and call it off then. Its its frozen at 2pm with the temperature at 5 degrees, it ain't gonna improve with time when it's gonna be dark again in a few hours and the evening temp was forecast as -1. Utterly shameful.
At the very least Exeter should refund the 331 of us our ticket cost, regardless of whether we can make the new date or not. Better not say ought else cos it wouldn't pass the swear filter but there was no way on this earth that this game was going to be on. They should have got a local ref to call it last night or this morning. The fact that they not only didn't offer any communication but let a misleading impression prevail just compounds their total ineptitude.
How about the EFL pass back our fines money to compensate the 331 and the club's travel and accommodation costs?
Really poor is this. I feel sorry for the fans who made the journey and they deserve to be compensated. Why don't we have a game on Saturday?
