FA Cup weekend, we should have been playing the massives from Hillsborough

That’s brought back some memories! Was it just outside the Market from Cheapside? They used to do a curranty iced finger. Top drawer.

Guidance from the FA regarding pitch inspections

"When dealing with such elements as frost or ice – remember that the highest temperature of the day is usually around mid-day. Get a forecast if necessary of the projected temperature for the time when the match is due to conclude"

They also say "remember that there is a responsibility to paying spectators"

I'm certain that these guidelines have not been followed and therefore either the referee or the club should be punished severely

Better safe than sorry with a frozen pitch I guess
Mind you i can commiserate with thòse that have travelled down.
In the 70s no mobiles or Internet then
I travelled down to Newport county's ground with the supporters club for a Tuesday night game . It had been raining all over the country for 3 days solid, about 40 minutes out of Newport, I was looking out of the window and saw the players coach going in the opposite direction back north....on informing everybody what I'd seen, no one would believe me, due to the fact I'd a reputation for joking and fooling around.
They believed me when we got there, I kid you not Tom Daley would have been more at home.
The pitch was covered in a good 2ft of water and in places it was coming over the wall into the terracing which were also flooded apparently they had, 2 or 3 massive cloud bursts on top of 3 days of constant rain...match should and could have been called off that morning before anyone travelled ....Happy days

According to Alexa, the temperature in Exeter at 7.15 pm this evening is +3 degrees. If that's so, and it's just a couple of smallish areas of the pitch that were affected by frost, the decision to postpone seems even more outrageous. There is every reason to suspect that not a great deal of effort was made to get the game played.

ECFC should be heavily punished for this. It'll never be proven, but I believe they've taken advantage of the situation, probably pointed the ref in the direction of the frozen bits, in order not to have to play a game with a keeper who hasn't trained with them yet, against a team who were impressive, first half atleast, last Saturday.
It's moon landings, vatican and 9/11 all over again.

Having travelled down yesterday to paignton (17 of us oldies in a minibus) then travelling back thursday. (Short break). I could just about stomach the fact that the game could be postponed. ( a fact of life. weather is unpredictable so far in advance. We booked as soon as it was rearranged. ) But the communication from Exeter today promising regular updates has to be one of the biggest jokes ever. We left it till 4 having rang the club to set off from paignton. Them saying inspection at 3. "Looking good to go". No update, rang again about 3:45 " er not as confident": No update. set off. 4pm
Got within about 8 miles. Game Off.
I understand players safety is paramount. But poor in respect of leaving the decision so late for fans. Knowing the forecast was little or no possibility of improvement. S41T Show.

Further to my recent post, Alexa says it's +2 degrees in Exeter at 7.50 pm, 5 minutes after the scheduled kick-off.

I’d like to see the Club lose their $hit over this. Whether it’s Exeter, the ref or somewhere in between, it’s completely unacceptable. I see BFCST are putting in an official complaint. I’d like to see the same from the Club.

A quick glance at Google suggests that League 1 referees don't tend to be professional.

Surely that's the answer really - give them a full time wage and require them to be there in good time to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen.

Darren cancelled his last match too - Crawley v Donny, maybe he just loves the thrill of a postponement, or has got a lot on at home at the moment, big DIY project or something of that nature.

I heard he’s still only half way through Ghost Recon Wildlands, and it’s taking him forever to finish it.

I have just got back home, which is a tad easier for me, as it's 'just' a 256 mile round trip compared with the good folks travelling from Barnsley. It beggars belief how badly this has been handled. The team must have thought the game would be on, having travelled down yesterday and stayed in a hotel. Presumably they would have been expecting to hear yesterday if it was on, or not. I can add nothing to the comments made by the other 331 fans who travelled down, some putting up in hotels. In agree with all comments and think that Exeter should compensate all costs to both fans and team. Now, to make matters worse, on the 128 mile journey home, the temperature at no point dropped below zero and, to make matters even more dangerous for fans travelling back tonight, there are patches of dense, freezing fog. No one has bothered to think of the fans in this situation. It was bad enough for me, but so much more of a trial for those who travelled from Tarn.

Compensation needed from ECFC. I agree and hope that no one is injured in any road accident caused by the fog on the way home. Anyone from Exeter City FC reading this? Hang your head in shame.

Oh! And also, Exeter were still selling tickets for the game for home supporters over the lunchtime period.
