I think it's pretty obvious. Improvements are needed. To their all round game. Which are better qualities if improved. What you expect and what you get are different at all those levels.
Collins poor shot stopper and gatherer of Ball.
Walton far better shot stopper but equally not as good at gathering the ball. And less confident at coming out.
Would you put them in the eg luke Steele. Clive Baker league. Not even comparable to Dave Watson or the Best of all Heinz Muller.
Would you say either are of that standard.
I could name a few more but my point is made and imho. Stick to your guns if you like. It's your opinion.

while Walton is a pretty able deputy Collins is pretty easily the better keeper and as you say he proved this at Championship level unlike the vast majority of our squad

You are comparing him the best 4 keepers in the last 50 years and in Watson and Mueller probably the top 1&2 ever. There have been plenty of others say Lee Butler for example who Collins is just as good as.

Apart from a brief spell under Struber, Collins has been the number one choice of all our umpteen Head Coaches since he first broke into the side. That nails it for me.

Their regular keeper is on loan from Forest, so appears no obvious long term No.1 so he might view as ideal opportunity.

Best for all parties I reckon. Has the potential to be number 1 there next season if he impresses, we cash in whilst we can, and obviously if he does impress, he'll be getting regular game time. I would like to see a very decent sell on clause though with this one!

No. I'm saying they were championship quality. Especially Steele. Baker. Davies. Pearce (Watson Arguably alongside Muller the 2 of premiership quality.) and I'll ask again of anyone on here what makes either of those 2 Championship quality.
I've given my reasons why not.
What makes folk think they are championship quality instead of just saying the same boring quote. "Collins is better than walton" Then the rest of you can debate once you've decided. I'll keep out of it.

We need 7 goalkeepers in the squad, including at least 4 with fully functioning knees. Can't be too careful with injuries, illness, suspensions etc.

I mentioned baker mate because I'm of the opinion he was a far better goalie than those 2. . Although not the tallest. His all round game was light years ahead.

But you just don't rate Collins, we understand that, you prefer Walton over him. Theres so much more to goalkeepers these days than previous years, and Collins stops a lot of attacks before they turn into shots, especially under Val. He deserved POTY last season by a mile, the only one who consistently performed, his expected saves was sky high at one point, wasn't far off Alissons this season. We play different now so doesn't seem as effective, but ill be shocked if he doesn't spend rest of his career in the championship and beyond after his time with us

Baker remains my all time favourite 'keeper.

Granted he was the keeper as I first started watching Barnsley, but will take some shifting from being my number 1

David Watson was and is my favourite reds keeper of all time. Unbelievable shot stopper. No idea how he didn’t get into the England squad

Who's that goalie that Hodges signed who had a bad back and found it difficult to bend down?

Since struber we've only had val and duff who had a clue.. schopp and the p.e teacher 2 of the worst and their team selections and opinions *****... but yes I agree Collins is the better of the 2.

Under schopp and ashbagi Collins really kept the score down in a lot of games.

Watson for England... can still hear it now. Unfortunate to get injured like he did.

I'd say he's a championship keeper because he played well in the championship in a side where he had a lot to do. How else do you define a championship player other than they can cope well in the championship?
