Tomorrow at 11pm! What are we hoping for? On the incoming front, we've managed to get most of our business done early. I would like to see another striker come in, and maybe a centre half (when you consider McCarthy and Sraha out long term, Moon left and Edwards returned to Stoke), but otherwise I think we're sufficiently covered permitting nobody leaves. We've added a striker and wing back like Duff suggested we might do at the start of the window, as well as another body at the back. In terms of outgoings, Williams to Preston seems to have gone quiet. I'm not sure it was true in the first place if I'm honest. Walton to Luton wouldn't disappoint me too much, as I think Collins is a much better keeper, and with the number of appearances Searle has made, it would mean we could exploit the emergency loan market if something happened to Collins (I think). Odour is likely to be moved on too, which again wouldn't be much of an issue. Particularly when we appear to have signed one, and are potentially looking at others in that position. So 2 in, and nobody major out would be the dream.
I'd go along with that. But more specifically, I'd like to see a striker come in that can play more of a target man role, that Watters / Norwood / Cole could play off. And a defender who's primary position is centre back, that can play in the middle of the back three. Saw some suggestion on the Walton thread that we would be loaning in a keeper from Luton as part of that deal. Not sure that makes a great deal of sense, given we can only have 5 loan players in a matchday squad, and we already have 5 at the club.
Will Sky Sports news Jim White be shouting into his autocue? and having pretend chats with his good friend "insert former managers like Harry Redknapp and Sam Allardyce etc"
We need at very least one more striker. If we get that than I am happy. If we can add an extra CB as cover that would be useful too as you said.
Only thing I can think of is Collins could be on his way out. Contract extension triggered last week, higher transfer fee. 2+2 and all that
To be honest, i've not seen a great deal of him, but Duff was complimentary about him in a recent interview. He also said he was pretty relaxed about going with what we have now. So, if we don't sign a striker, I won't be too bothered (though, I might steer clear of Twitter for a while, as the moaning on there is becoming very boring!). But if we do, it should be someone that offers something to what we already have. So, it would either be a tall(ish), strong hold up player, or a goal poacher that is likely to get across the front defender and on the end of some of the crosses the likes of Cadden puts in. Possibly, and if it is the case, at least we're lining up replacements, which was something we have been guilty of not doing in the past.
If the Shaw and Walton/Isted transfers go through then fair enough but I think they are incidental to the real need which imho is the striker and centre half. Luke Plange and Mattie Pollock would have been ideal - fingers crossed we may still go for Plange. Whilst I'm a bit sceptical on Hamer due to his performance at Oakwell he may be a decent alternative to Pollock as he can cover a few defensive positions. With the Wolfe injury and Benson being out and injury prone we probably need to add a midfielder to the list now, particularly as Kane and Connell are getting nearer to 10 bookings.
I don’t understand why Tedic and Martin are still here. About as useless a pair of loan signings you would wish to see. Ok, they both played ok at Doncaster, apart from the dismal penalty, but nothing else. I thought you could send injured players back anyway (like Edwards).
Yes, so hopefully he has something else about him that justifies his signing. Lack of a plan B is a worry.
Though you said fingers crossed for Plange, and he's only listed as 1.78, which isn't exactly targetman levels.
Nothing against the lad but (a) Thomas is coming back soon hopefully; and (b) in all the games we've struggled in we've lacked a real presence to battle it out up front. As I say, I'm not against us signing him as you can never have enough front men but I'd personally prioritise someone with a real athletic presence who can eg knock the Wycombe defenders out of their stride.
