Best mate Dad, went into coma and had his leg amputated. Joiner by trade been laid off as can’t do his job on sites etc.
Being told only entitled to £8 a week as he has made himself unemployable until PiP claim is processed completely, can apply for an emergency loan until claim is completed for a whole £56!!

Delay in his claim as he had to go in to prove he had one leg and they had a 2 week lead time, got there for an appointment and they didn’t realise he couldn’t manage stairs so had to postpone for another week to allow them to book a downstairs room.

Anyone advise best way to speed up/help with claim?
I have written an email tonight for him to the local MP but given the fact he is an absolute tossed, I’m not holding my breath on even a response from him.

Best advice I could give would be for you to drive him down to Dover, pop him a life jacket on, chuck his passport in the ocean and leave him on the beach. From there he'll be given 4 star accommodation, free of charge, a monetary allowance, vouchers for clothes and food and an expedited pathway to full benefits.

    The country is ruined.

You do realise that treating immigrants and English disadvantaged with dignity and appropriate support aren't mutually exclusive, right? It's not an either/or choice despite what the Dailly Mail might tell you.

Think before you parrot ill-informed asinine *****.

Don't forget that it's just not true, apart from anything else.

If only everybody in need did actually get treated like the nutters think refugees do!

Fist off - I’m not a benefit expert.

Always difficult to advise without knowing the full facts.
But first we have to separate PIP from the other benefits.

If he’s always worked and paid his NI and has a sick note he should claim ESA conts based, he’ll get that at the lower rate until he’s had an assessment, at which point he’ll likely be awarded at the higher rate. There’s no benefit that pays £8 per week, I can only imagine somebody advised him to claim UC* and he’s managed to get a sanction for not complying with rules he either didn’t understand or simply couldn’t due to his health.

*re UC; depending on his circumstances it could be the right benefit, but we’d have to know the circumstances in detail.

    that’s enough for one post.

If he was advised incorrectly by DWP staff, he’ll be entitled to what he’s not had plus compensation. But again, without the specific detail, it’s impossible to say.

As for PIP, it’s not money to live on. It’s to pay for additional support required for him to live an independent life.

It’s frustrating when people refuse to compartmentalise them properly, because it leads to them making all kinds of incorrect assumptions.

Hope that helps a bit, and he gets sorted soon.

Possibly. Plenty of hotels full of illegals from war torn France at the minute. Couldn't tell you how there treated or what benefits there on as I've never spoken to them.

If hazard a guess that stopping in a hotel with food and drink is a Damm site more costly than the £8 a week on offer to the OP’s father!!!

Why can’t folk have there views and opinions on the migrant situation without being branded racists?

Because the basis for ‘you get treated better if you’re a foreigner’ is intrinsically racist.

    It’s not a complex point.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if it’s racist. But it’s disingenuous to pretend racism isn’t an important factor.

There’s no French refugees. If you insist on parroting lies expect to have them pointed out.

We treat refugees worse than any comparable country. That’s a fact.

Yet somehow they still want to come here. If you don’t understand that it’s maybe because all the racists are shouting that ‘we treat them so well’, then I don’t know what else to say.

Tbh some migrants go get treated better than some of our own…….you only have to walk the streets of every town and city at midnight to see that! It’s maybe there choice but I’m sure they’d also like a warm bed with food and drink too…….would they not?

The DWP wouldn't tell anyone they are unemployable. If they have he's probably entitled to a range of benefits.
Tell him contact DIAL they will help with the process.
He will get all benefits he's entitled to backdated.
