In the last couple of months, how many goals that we've conceded has been due to goalkeeper error? I remember one of top of my head. It's also massively skewed anyway due to the amount of penalties we've conceded... Obviously it'll make any keeper statistically look bad if their team was conceding a penalty every 90 minutes. Especially when said penalty is their oppositions only shot on target.
I was saying that to @Chef Tyke at the Accrington game. One of the quickest players we've had over ten yards.
Has he shagged your Mrs or summat? This agenda is a bit tragic. Yes he’s made the odd error but it’s not premier league football. There isn’t one goalkeeper in this division I’d rate much higher than him. And these stats about shots on target to goals in recent months - I’ll take your word for it - but how many other keepers you’re comparing him against have faced the same amount of penalties? You might find stats to prove your agenda but the stats don’t tell the whole story. It sounds like he’s been playing with a knock for a start, and how many goals that weren’t penalties has he conceded in the last, say, twelve games? And how many of those would you say were errors on his part?
It's bizarre, isn't it? I think some folk are wired up wrong. First time we've won in Oxford since I was a litlte lad. Up the ******* Tykes.
Personally, I'm making a point. As we have many on this BBS who labelled Ismael as Anti Football. And that last 15 minute's was the very definition of Anti Football, cos we did everything we could litterally not to play football. But somehow it's now called game management
Pheeew...just about got there. Firstly good 3 points and for a large part of that game looked streets ahead of oxford, certainly in terms of pass and move. Last 25 mins were a worry but we managed to see it out. The fact the ball doesn't stick up front is my main concern. Back 3 did well ....special mention for Kane, my man of the natch.
We're in League One. On a mid-table budget. We played some great football tonight. Both goals I felt were good to watch, especially the second. Some kamikaze defending at times. I felt half of the lads were off their game. But we won. That's a proper step forward. Against a side who in their last two home games beat Ipswich and Charlton. Don't care what we look like. It's three points. We have just beaten a side who only ever hoofed it, and played for corners/throws. Karl Robinson is meant to be a football connoisseur isn't he? Only one of us playing footy tonight. Wasting time, playing into the corner towards the end etc - MINT. Love it.
The assistant referee was on our touchline was way behind play in the first half. I can only imagine he had answered the following ad. this morning. ASSISTANT REFEREE REQUIRED NO EXPERIENCE NECCESSARY flag provided. He was hopeless and could not have given an offside as he was never in line with our last man.
Nice to meet you tonight @Didcot Red And yes the Linesman on our side was really poor. I thought the ref was better than most this season though and managed to miss the we must concede a pen memo
Just back - Yooooouuuuuu Reeeeeeeeds! Nice to win a crappy, scrappy one. We've lost or drawn enough of them so good to get one back. Kane my MotM but good from some of our lesser heralded players Norwood, Cadden and Kitching. Bobby Thomas is a 'Beast' and our Bobby/Lukey song to Kolo/Yaya is poor but catchy! Only worry is Kane and Connell racking up the bookings. Linesman on our side was tragi-comedy gold and Oxford are the only team I've ever seen that are disappointed if they win a corner instead of a throw. Get them winning games in hand clocked up!
There was a strong, swirling wind blowing all match which must have made the flight of the ball very hard to judge. I'm sure that's why Oxford were playing so many high balls.
Morning all, had a great day out in Oxford, got back about 3ish, great 3points, thought we were gunner blow it, dId'nt like the last 15 minutes, well to be honest last 25minutes with the 10minutes extra time, onwards an upwards, back down to earth Saturday, watching Bridlington play Sheffield fc. C,O,Y,R, Posted before i read all the posts, i know it was difficult, i was there it was a good performance, not great, and we played the game out, granted it's not nice but it worked, i was there and as we all know it's a lot differant from a seat in the Stadium than a seat in the front room. Great 3points, 5 point cushion, result against Portsmouth, who knows, C,O,Y,R,
Good point, play that ground to their strenghts, we did what was required, 3points, a win Away in difficult conditions
Good post Winker. I'd echo that. Just wish we'd stop the shenanigans of time wasting. With ages to go. Collins the main culprit. I just think it riles the ref to add more time than is actually wasted. Boils my p155.
You have a strange view of football if you like that side of the game. Collins started to waste time 59 mins in which is frankly ridiculous. It's so blatant, he must be the worst player in the league for it. We need to cut that out ad rely on our standard of football being good enough to win a match. All it did was rile the opposition and fans, they ended up scoring and put us under more pressure when that game was won comfortably. Referee started adding all the time back on and we were lucky to get away with under 15 mins added. I'd like to see red cards being handed out for blatant time wasting. Also, you get booked for kicking the ball away when a free kick is given, but nothing when you pick the ball up and run away with it, it's **** frankly. It's a spectator sport at the end of the day. Fantastic that we won of course but the time wasting was counter productive and we are getting a reputation with the refs for it..
I can only speak for myself, but comments in a matchday thread as the game is ongoing are typical of what may be said in the ground. Obviously they’re not always right but They’re said on emotion often in the heat of the moment. I get frustrated at wasted passes, I’ve been annoyed for a few seasons at our adoption of everybody back for corners and set- pieces, most annoying when the opposition still find time and room to get a shot in and sometimes score. It’s called raw emotion. We are doing far better this season than what the most optimistic amongst us could’ve envisaged.
Can’t take what you post seriously with comments like this. If every game ran true to ‘ ball in play for 90 minutes’ most games would continue for another 20 minutes after the initial 90. I was expecting 5 perhaps 6 minutes yesterday, but the initial 8 minutes plus the rest was ridiculous. Have you thought that what Collins does is a case of trying to take the sting out of the game and give us time to try and regain some composure after a sustained period of pressure for example.
