Many centuries ago when I was a lad, it used to be deemed the sign of a decent team if they still won games when they weren't necessarily at their best.
Don't get the negativity from some on here. As far as I can see the only problem was our age old one, the final ball and putting the thing in the net. We hammer them for say thirty minutes, they play bit out to half time only one down. They have obviously had good results against top sides so it shouldn't be a surprise. Second half they adjust and after a bollocking from their manager are more competitive. Yes we wobbled a bit at the back at times but I still think our lack of scoring has a large effect on that. We have brought in reinforcements to hopefully counteract our shortcomings , so lets see when they have had a chance to bed in
Agree with this. It’s a recurring theme, in that we look a division above most sides for the first hour; but we don’t translate this into goals. The recent game against Accrington showed what happens when we manage to do so. Even then, we do appear to flag alarmingly after an hour or so. We are definitely a first-half team at the moment.
Can't believe we're winning so many matches away from home against decent opposition (most.of whom we've a poor record against.) When I first started watching Barnsley, one or two away wins per season was the norm.
Yet every game when we have been ahead at half time we have gone on to win - so our second half flagging cant be that dramatic ( Different story if we are behind at half time - then we go on to lose)
I don't think we'll go up. For many reasons. Primarily because I don't think we're good enough. But neither the manager nor the players appear to be taking any notice of my opinion as they keep winning games regardless. And games like last night, when we didn't play all that well but still won, of which there have been quite a few, have got me thinking I may be wrong and they might be promoted after all. Winning all matches when we play well and a good chunk of them when we don't is a hell of a good habit to get in to.
