'All charges against Greenwood dropped' https://www.skysports.com/share/12801572 https://www.fotmob.com/embed/news/01gr97hcbnpg-Mason-Greenwood:-Greater-Manchester-Police-drop-all-charges-against-Man-Utd-forward A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson added: “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. “In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case. “We have explained our decision to all parties. We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met.”
It mentions key witnesses. That will be his ex. Since the charges she had started following him again on social media and had been seen out and about with him.
Where does that leave his club and any sponsors that ditched him, "No case" doesn't mean innocent but also not guilty.
If they think there is little chance of conviction they make the decision to stop the case for 2 reasons - to prevent the waste of time/money, but more importantly to save the victims from having to go through the ordeal of the court case. It certainly doesn’t always mean they think the accused was innocent In this particular case both Manchester United and the general public have seen the photographs, read the messages his girlfriend put online and heard the audio recording, so there’s plenty there for us to make a judgement ourselves on what we think of him as a person. If that was a Reds player I wouldn’t want him anywhere near the club.
So she's either tried to drop the case or basically said she won't turn up to court. Can't believe he's getting off with it (the photos were shocking) but more fool her if she's back with him.
The law is a complete ass. The fact that she now seems to not want to testify for whatever reason should not matter. The evidence is ******* clear to anyone with a pair of ears
If its her choice to choose that lifestyle, there's little anyone can do, he's an @rsehole and she does a disservice to anyone in that situation.
That's it. Following him on social media and meeting him in public wasn't a good sign. Probably said he's sorry and changed and she will claim to love him and believe the lines he's churned our to her. The evidence is that clear he should have been getting locked up even if she wouldn't give evidence against him. Even with all charges dropped I would hate someone like that playing for our team.
Further evidence the law is an ass. The ******** from Barnsley who killed two cyclists in an hit and run, then went into hiding and the police had to publish his photograph appealing for the public's help in finding him. He eventually handed himself in and has been given bail. Bail to someone who has been on the run for the last few weeks. Madness
Latest Greenwood will not play or train for Manchester United whilst they conduct an internal investigation into the matter. Greenwood's contract at Old Trafford runs until June 2025.
All a little too judgemental on here I’d say. It’s an emotive subject, what he was accused of was heinous - but that’s the point. He was accused, not convicted. We’ve heard a recording in the public domain but we haven’t seen or heard all other evidence and the withdrawal of ‘key witnesses’ evidence - potentially the ‘victim’ included, makes a conviction beyond reach. There therefore must be more to this than what can be heard on there. The recording that was ‘leaked’ was incomplete as well. What else was on there? Did it put things in a different context? I doubt we will ever know. I’m not trying to be an apologist for a violent criminal. But he isn’t a criminal, he has no conviction and faces no case - and to judge him as a violent criminal - and sex offender - regardless, on the face of only the evidence that has been made public, is dangerous and unfair. It is very easy to draw conclusions but if the cps have withdrawn all charges, then he is innocent. You are innocent until proven guilty under the law of the land and he cannot in their eyes be proven guilty. There is no reason he shouldn’t be permitted to continue his career. I suspect he may end up playing abroad however. It will be difficult for him here you’d imagine, given the small cross section of the general public on this forum all seem to have him convicted and card marked permanently, you can’t think he will get any more understanding elsewhere either, not in this country anyway. Manchester United are in an unenviable position. They legally probably can’t sack him and they probably feel that morally they can’t not sack him. I do wonder if the timing of the decision and the announcement of it is purely coincidentally a couple of days after they could potentially have tried to offload him.
He is innocent until proven guilty. Unless convicted in the court of ill informed public opinion it seems.
Just from a human point of view - given the evidence, not hearsay - evidence, he's a scummy tw*t and if he did that to my daughter he'd be watching his back for the rest of his life.
unfortunately most rape cases never reach court and those that do rarely result in a conviction so this is not a unique situation just a high profile one
