He might well be gone too long after this job. For me he is another of those football coaches who finds one cushy billet (Luton), does well there for a while, but can't cut it anywhere else.
Been having a read on their forums. Very bleak. They can't stand Jones already and want him gone, and by the looks of their forums, all of them do. Don't think it helped when they first got him a lot of their fans were seriously underwhelmed by his appointment - which I can understand. Very embarrassing for them but I reckon if they're going to have a chance of staying up, they need to replace him already. Doubt that will happen though surely?
It was a **** appointment. Can fully understand their anger. Almost like they've accepted relegation. Whoever they went for should have been an improvement on Hassenhutl not a downgrade!
I can see why, I think it's a change of tactics from him to try endear himself to the Southampton fans. I remember even 4/5 weeks ago on Talksport southampton callers wanted him gone then
I think that's part of the problem. Some fans aren't willing to get behind an appointment which they wouldn't have made in the first place. We had something similar, some of our fans were turning on Schopp as early as the 5th game of the season last season. Don't get me wrong, they were justified in their criticism, but in some instances, managers have lost before they've even started because their not who some fans had 'set their heart on' so to speak.
Has he though? If you listen to the whole thing he appears to be self critical but then blames everyone else and then waffles on about being the greatest manager the games ever seen. A bit weird really.
I think Southampton are preparing for the Championship. I went to watch them recently play Lincoln in the cup, my mates a Lincoln fan and as we were visiting my brother in law in Southampton I went along to watch the game. It has to be said, Southampton we’re absolutely shocking and it was easy to see why they are bottom of the league.
I think anybody blaming Hassehutl or Jones for Southampton’s struggles are getting it wrong. The board are completely to blame. Small budget with a load of kids signed & constantly selling their better players. Relegation at some stage is inevitable.
