Do we have one of the worst atmospheres? Other teams pompey for example and Charlton say we are okay in numbers but awful vocally. Wy cant we just generate an atmosphere? I get our song list at times needs binning... I wanna go home song. We all hate leeds scum... Basic ***** like that needs binning.
At home, 100000%. It's really bad, especially this season. I assume a lot of that is down to last season, but for a while now it hasn't been very good at all. Can't say same for our away fans though. Always travel in numbers, even when struggling/not performing, and always vocal - at the games I'm at anyway. Didn't go Portsmouth or Oxford. I do think the positioning of our fans & their fans has an impact on atmosphere at home games too. But honestly I just feel there's still a lot of bad blood between everyone and it's having a major impact. Hopefully everything will gradually get better... promotion will certainly help
I just cant help but think a bit of positive movements off the field at home would lift the fans. A decent match day build up. Improve the positioning of the fans as i agree its attrocious. We are miles away from the away end. Match day experience will make us more attractive. Make our kids want to comeback and i know as fans we are capable of doing so.
They do seem to be working on it bud, discussing it. Seen several messages on here from Whitey regarding it all, so clearly they know something needs to be done & are addressing it. I do have full confidence in our trust Edit - whether that means the board will do the right thing even though theyre in tandem with the trust, I don't know! Hope so though
Still think there's a hangover from the Chein/ Conway fiasco where a lot of fans felt distanced from the club and lost some of the fire, I used to be intolerable on a saturday if we lost but it's more of a disappointment these days. lost a reasonably large season ticket holder group from behind us this season and another smaller group in front. dunno how the club can restore that desire at present..would like to see a settled side doing well and not be wary of the next firesale...............just my opinion.
I don't understand where this notion of fire sale comes from though. We've moved on players for good fees and players who don't wanna be here. It's a myth. I do agree however about the hangover. I think a lot of fans still see it basically as the same board. But many fans had us midtable and some even for relegation, surely that goes some way towards a settled side doing well? Hopefully the board listens to fans and make it a better experience for all mate.
Think it's the listing of our better players every transfer window. Collins,Mads, Williams are current nominations. also there's a belief that we can be bullied in transfer dealings and sell cheaply..although as we always have " undisclosed" dealings so who really knows..
I get that mate but fans on twitter berate the club about selling them.... because they've heard rumours on twitter from randoms. Weve always done decent in retaining our best players. Everyone thought Collins and Mads would be off too, they're here still. This window just gone, mass uproar about Williams going Preston yet turned out to be ********. Connell supposed to be leaving after only be here 2 minutes, turned out to be ********. It just doesn't happen as bad as everyone makes out yet they still get on at club as though it has happened. We did brilliant this window keeping our best players and adding to them.
Ye and does feel good that we've kept them. hopefully we can start to feel more connected to the players and the club as a whole...
It’s difficult to generate loyalty, belief and commitment to a club when its owners have said exactly the opposite. They haven’t published any dream, ambition or goal for the club to reach the premier league or even to suggest they want to be competing in the top levels of the Championship. Instead they’ve openly publicised their agenda and it’s a spreadsheet policy all about making them money, they will sell their best players for profit first chance they get, investing in only the young because they can’t make a profit on seasoned professionals. Their policy isn’t to show the fans entertainment or achieve footballing success …. It’s to make them money. They’ve then sold the fans a line on how this is the only way the club can survive (it maybe in todays football), they will make the match day experience better (I’m still waiting) and how they hope their policy may generate short term successes. That’s the reason why there isn’t the passion for the club anymore …. It’s no longer our club, it’s a spreadsheet business aimed at making foreign owners money on the back of the club badge!
Simon Davey did 3 years at least I'd imagine? Don't think anyone else since has done any more than 18 months.....
There were a few long serving ones after Jim Iley. Norman Hunter's reign was probably for more than 3 years and Allan Clarke's second spell definitely was. Others that have had lengthy spells in charge were Mel Machin and Danny Wilson. The last 20 years though has been like a revolving door.
If they're a success they move on to another club who don't pay peanuts. If they're a failure they're sacked.
I think this is spot on . The disconnect between Club and fans is huge - better than it was since ConLee were forced to walk the plank, but still huge, It's shown by the fact that even though we are competitive in this Division and challenging for promotion, there's a real don't care attitude at Oakwell - much less so away from home. It' shown by the lack of enthusiasm for this years campaign. Just contrast that with the last two seasons in this League. Chalk and cheese. How is it to be improved? Slowly and with a rebuilding of trust and ambition. I think the Club are getting there but it's a long haul.
