What? Like boil my Pi55 time wasting from the goal. If it had been given . Might have scored a second wouldn't have been on the script. At that stage of the game. (Just saying)
I haven’t seen the Barnsley incident but the thread reminds me of the Clive Thomas incident when he blew for time seconds before Zico scored for Brazil v Sweden. Was he a bad ref or just an attention seeker?
It would have been nice to find out though For sure the game would have panned out differently so we are unlikely to have scored from a long throw in the 88th Minute again so anyone claiming the decision cost us a 2-1 win is basing that on incorrect data. We might have scored a second - so might Pompey but most likely the game would still have finished 1-1
There’s no conspiracy theory......penalties are like buses, wait ages for one and then loads turn up at once....there’s not one team in land that has supporters that don’t moan about referees!
Totally agree. This view that it cost us 2 points just doesn’t make sense to me. If it was an injury time winner that had been chalked off, fair enough. But it wasn’t.
He was just a bad Ref got lots of decisions wrong some favoured us some favoured Pompey in particlular after disallowing out goal instead of trying to even things up he gave several wrong decisions all in favour of Portsmouth which was annoying to say the least. Especially when he booked Cadden for protesting a throw in a dangerous area when anyone without a white stick could clearly see the ball went out of their player. AS for our none goal I just checked back the timings - the foul is made 1minute 28 seconds into the youtube highlights, The ball hits the back of the net at 1 minute 29 seconds If the sound is synchronised to the picture the ref starts to blow just as Cole strikes the ball and is still blowing as it hits the back of the net. so somehow the ref managed to blow for a foul almost before it happened, I think its because its clear their guy was going to foul Martin so the ref had anticipated it. but failed to anticipate a possibility of an advantage. To make things worse he then didnt book their player or even talk to him - something even the Portsmouth local rag found hard to believe in its match report. And he made no attempt to apologise to our players. By the way anyone saying we only scored because they stopped playing at the whistle is wrong there was no time for them to stop doing that and the ball was passing the keeper as the whistle sounded
In this instance a referee gave Barnsley a free kick in a goal scoring position on the edge of the area. If he had a bias against us he wouldn't be giving us free kicks on the edge of the opposition area. As it turned out, the silly old chuffer should have been much more aware of what was going on and realised that we were going to get an advantage. He didn't, he was focused on the incident and blew his whistle without looking up. Poor reffing, but what it definitely wasn't was a bias against us because he gave us the free kick!
If I remember rightly, Clive Thomas awarded a corner but, as the corner landed in the area to Zico, he blew for full time. I haven’t seen a referee since giving a corner then blowing as the ball lands in the area! My view is he was a bad ref AND an attention seeker
Dermot Gallagher on Sky Sports has just reviewed it and said it should have been a goal but the ref made a bad decision by blowing before allowing advantage
