How are the board to blame though?
Southampton are a club that has had spells out of the top tier and have never been one of the big clubs. They survived a long time in the Prem by buying cheap and selling high but eventually that run hits a barren spell and the pressure is on. Should they spend untold millions they don't have or accept that their tenure in the top division is always going to be cyclical.
I'd suggest they're a division higher than us in status in that they're feeling the pressure of smaller clubs who are being bankrolled or clubs who are of a similar stature but cheating financially.
Maybe they overspend themselves but I'm afraid they're just another also ran club who have to expect to struggle in the top tier most of the time.

Because they sign kids with no experience. They don’t need to get in debt but it’s the same trap we’ve often fell into where they think every signing needs to be a sellable asset.

Southampton had a winning formula and fc uked it up. A bit like us in 95, 99, 2016 and 2021.

To be fair in 2016 and 2021 our formula was ****** up by other teams offering our better players a shitload of money.

Sorry. I was going to post when good things started and finished. I got sidetracked and that gobbledygook came out. All the good work started in 95 under Wilson was undone in Summer 98 by John Dennis appointing Hendrie. The 99 part was academic in that the season was wasted. The 2016 f cuk.up was the contract situation and the 2021 **** up was not signing a centre midfielder after Mowatt left and fit centre forward to cover Collins and Woodrow.

It's rare any downfall throughout our history is attributed to other clubs other than the Arsenal debacle just after World War 1.

Everything is annoyingly self inflicted. Get some semblance of success and f cuk.it up.
