For me would have to be the league cup game v Man City in the early 80s - 33,700 if I recall correctly. Think it cost £1.70 to get in
Same game v Man. City for me, was stood on the open corner terrace between Brewery stand and Ponty end, unbelievable atmosphere.
Not sure which had the higher attendance, Man City or Liverpool in 1982 but I were at both oh and the Everton game mentioned above.
Man City 2.12.81 33792 Luton 18.2.61 32923 Everton 18.2.89 32551 Everton 15.1.63 30011 The 6th round cup replay against Leicester on 8.3.61 attracted 39250 - to a Wednesday afternoon 3.15 kickoff! It was deemed a step too far for me, aged 8, so I spent the afternoon at school. Daydreaming of Oakwell.
Man City. Great goal by Aylott. McCarthy had the City strikers under wraps. Great game. I actually hugged a total stranger when we scored. Probably get arrested now....
Everton in 1989 for me and the first replay v Sheff Utd the following season. The Man City game in 1981 was a case of being allowed to stay up and watch it on Sportsnight.
Man City 81 for me. Sad to say I doubt we'll ever see much more than 20k in Oakwell again in my lifetime.
Man City in 81 in the West Stand upper fantastic atmosphere never to be repeated with so many fans in Oakwell.
