For those interested, the headline acts have been announced for the festival in August Scouting For Girls Newton Faulkner Kate Rusby (of course) https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/article/24659/headline-acts-announced-for-music-festival
I've never been to that even though I am a big Kate Rusby fan. Can't say I am that inspired by the headline acts listed above though.
I saw Scouting for Girls at Tramlines last year. I said to my Mrs that they'd do well to fill a half hour set with the handful of hits they'd had, but I tell you what, they did a right job of it. They were incredible at making a 3 minute song last 6/7 minutes.
I've never understood why bands drag songs out to ridiculous lengths just because they're in a live setting. By strange coincidence, whilst chanel-hopping, I've just watched ELO doing a live rendition of Roll Over Beethoven. It lasted longer than a Cauley Woodrow fortnight. And don't get me started on drum solos...
Totally agree, UFO with 'Rock Bottom' is another example of this. The original was long enough at 6.29, but the live version was 11.27 due to Schenker's extended guitar solo.
Agreed. I was there and thought they were brilliant - the stand out performers of the weekend. I’d happily see them again.
I have a theory that 90% of music under 5 minutes is crap. Irrespective of what you personally like, the majority of music in that length will be absolute pants. On the inverse, above 6 minutes and 90% of what you'll hear is great - mainly because you'll be listening to something you like Between 5 and 6 minutes, its 50-50.
I’m assuming the 10% classed as “not great” but over 5 minutes is all jazz?? Which goes on and on and on and on and on ….
Did tha get shut on them iron maiden tickets mate. Heard it on the grapevine tha swapped em for the Steps comeback tour.
