Just think of all the entertainment Nudger's Bridge has caused though... and it's not even been built yet!
And likely to still continue partly into the first few home games next season as I don’t think the bridge is due to open until early September!
I haven’t been in Barnsley town centre for probably two decades. I drive in from Donny (and have from Coventry and Scunny when I lived there temporarily); but I did use to come in by bus or train in younger years. I’ve not really paid much attention - how do you walk back into town now? If the crossing is gone and there’s a temporary bridge you can’t use, how do you get from Oakwell to say the bus station/train station?
If you haven’t been into town centre for the last 20 or so years I recommend you go an hour early for a match one afternoon and take a tour of the tarn. I promise you,you will be totally amazed.
It was a trek past the train station then back up Eldon Street. Last few games they've let you go through train station and over the bridge into the bus station
I will do that. Last time I was there I came in by train with a mate, went and had a couple of pints in Groggers (which I assume they demolished for the glass works) and walked over the crossing, past the bingo hall and up to Belgrave Road (or whatever it’s called at the town end). My Mrs had to go and do a relief shift at Paddy Power in Barnsley (she manages the Rotherham shop but started in the donny one) around October time - she was asking me where to go and park etc and I didn’t have the first clue! (She ended up in the glassworks as she was working late and the free three hours took her into the free time so it didn’t cost anything and is secure). I’m sure the place will be completely unrecognisable to what I remember it to have been. If I hadn’t been in Donny for two decades there’d be plenty to see that is different here as well. In the city centre… City. Right laugh. And with the Mrs working in Rotherham I’ve been there a few times and the town centre there is absolutely dead; it can’t possibly be anything but much better than that. I’ll go and park in the glass works and have a walk round everywhere. Maybe for the derby game. Presumably I can walk up Lambra road under the bridge and come out on ponty rd at the mount from the glass works? Or do I need to walk all up right round the station?
