Ex-Juke Box records - that's why they had no middle. I think Casa Disco used to sell replacement middle bits for a few pence.

I had that one, along with a few other CBS and Island samplers (Fill Your Head With Rock, Bumpers - two of the best ones). It was a cheap way of literally sampling the music of well known, or not so well known, artists. I've managed to find a few of them on YouTube and downloaded some of my favourite tracks.

Stage - brilliant. There was a yellow version on its original release in '78 and again with a repress in 2017 ( I picked that up as my original copy was a little worse for wear) Bowie's best live album for me - the version of Station to Station is just incredible. Original yellow might fetch £30, more recent one a little less.

This is the big mistake most charity shops make - they get in some records and charge daft money just because they're 'old.' LPs sold in their many millions back in the day, particularly the big name acts, meaning there are still tons of them around.

I reckon it must have been around 1980 when I paid 79p. Equivalent of around £5.50 today.
Haven't a clue of the price I paid for the other. Brand new yellow one.

The '78 yellow was on the RCA-Victor label, 2017 repress on Parlophone.

Definitely 78, mine mate. I lived less than 200yds from the record shop in wombwell. And used to pop in all the time. Bought it fot missus. Year after we got married and bought first house there.
I was into punk rock around that time just after Glam rock . And the Carpenters. ( took me years to admit to that) :)

Nice. And what a lovely back-story! You've got to keep that, even if it's just for nostalgic reasons.

I suspect living 200yds from a record shop would have cost me my marriage

We have a box of old 78s that my wife inherited from her grandad. I sometimes wonder if they're worth anything. Not sure of their quality or even what the titles are, apart from I remember seeing The Laughing Policeman in amongst them. They'll more than likely end up in a skip when we've kicked the bucket. :(

Remember it well. I bought Sgt Peppers there so he must have sold new albums as well.

There was one called ‘Nice Enough To Eat’ which I had when I was about 14. I bought it upstairs in Rediffusion (which was roughly where Clintons is today). As often happened, someone borrowed it and that was the last I saw of it. That is until I dropped on a copy in mint condition in a vinyl shop in York a few years ago. Took me right back to my youth!!

Yeah I’ve got pretty much the lot. The 3 EPs, the 7s, the 64-95 10” box, KY and Lost Horizons. I love Fred Deakin’s artwork.
