Just had a browse through owlstalk and it sounds like they were promoted yesterday by all accounts so a big well done to them. some very Wednesday threads. This is a good one https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic/317699-an-eye-on-next-season/ not only are some folk thinking about the championship already but the premier league
Don’t they need to get rid of their useless manager and at least half their squad of rubbish players first. I thought they were all holding them back a few weeks ago
Just read the owlstalk thread in the link. Comedy gold. Best one is when some unbeliever suggests bigger teams will be in for one of their players….. That didn’t go down well
Sadly you've got to hand it to them for being top, excellent goal difference, big crowds, they (sticks in throat) deserve to be where they are, as do we. It may be galling but if it was us up there then we'd be crowing all the way, and why not.
They deserve to be up there because they get big crowds? I didn't realise that the bloke in C38 was their left winger
With the money Big Daz as had at his disposal, there would be outcry if they were not up at the top to be fair.
And why not? Sunderland were in our shoes lat season, I imagine they were dreaming too. Now they are knocking on the door of the dream. Nowt wrong with a bit of wishful thinking, even if you are a little piggy.
The funniest is they can't think of any bigger teams in the Championship! Even they can't mess up getting promoted this time, but I wouldn't be crowing about being champions just yet!
Such a massive club, upon securing promotIon they really should be given special dispensation to go straight to the premier league at least, if not directly through to to the champions league.
They will go up this season, & they will expect to kick on & challenge for promotion to the Premier League but reality is nothing has changed in terms of how things are run. They have an ageing squad, with players such as Bannan, Gregory, Michael Smith, lazy sods like Malik Wilks etc etc. There’s no resale value to any of their players bar 1 or 2 so they will be reliant on Chansiri finding more loopholes in the system to sign over rated players. All this after they sack Darren Moore by October because they have a slow start. Ultimately they’ll spend more time fighting relegation than fighting for promotion. Plus their ground is terrible & shouldn’t be open.
on this occasion they probably can be confident of automatic and/or winning the thing, so I'm not surprised they're talking about it. any team at the top of the league would be doing the same. no problem with that. makes it even more embarrassing for them though, how they were carrying on a couple of months ago. at one point they were 2 points off top two and calling for him to be sacked.
To be fair it would take a massive drop in form for them not to finish top 2. If we were in their position I’d be giving it the Bertie Big as well. With the money they throw at it they are where they should be. But doesn’t matter, they’re winning every week and you have to enjoy it while you can.
One rang up praise or grumble the other week. Probably end of January time, and said that Darren Moore is by far the best manager in league 1, and will be one of the best in the Championship next season. He then said that he wanted him out just before Christmas because he wasn't very good back then. He was completely unapologetic for it, and seemed oblivious to the completely fickle nature of his call.
Imho I do think Moore is a good coach, he has the luxury of monies for player wages that most could only dream of at this level (maybe Ipswich have spent more) and for this reason he should do well. Chansri continues to "cook the books" and this may come back to bite them. The model they have means they HAVE to enjoy success and their recruitment reflects that. I struggle to discuss with my owls supporting mate that they pay 4 times the wages on twice as much income as us....he just keeps repeating the crowds they get and the commercial income that produces...sighhhh!
A bit off topic but I see that there was an incident at Hillsborough yesterday where the linesman was hit on the shoulder by an object thrown from the home stands. Given there was a similar occurrence earlier in the season in the game against Ipswich they should surely be in deep water now? It'll be interesting to see how the authorities deal with it.
