At this stage top 2 isn't going to be manageable I don't think. The two occupying those slots now are showing no signs of slipping up so be so so difficult to sneak in. If we had more striking options signed in the summer we may have been there now but we've left ourselves a bit too much to do.
Duff has done a brilliant job on limited resources. A slow start was always likely and so to be where we are now is a great achievement and somewhat against the odds. I always thought we would grow stronger as the season progresses. Top 2 is beyond us I think, as it will require 4 from 5 clubs above us slipping up, which I can’t see happening. We have a decent shout at the play offs and would fancy our chances if we make them, because we are so good away from home.
It’s all about how you spin it though I’m happy to ignore the August losses as we hadn’t really got ourselves sorted under Duff. And Bolton was skewed by the sending off. Don’t forget we beat Bolton in the cup and drew at their place. We have also strengthened since Xmas. The next few games will tell us whether we are good against better sides or just good against the poorer ones
To have any realistic chance to going up, we need to continue the form we've shown over the last 15 games until the end of the season. That's going to be tough, but definitely not impossible. We finally have a strong squad, and we now look extremely cohesive on the pitch. The fact that keeping the run going means taking points off the sides above us says to me that we're not out of the mix for automatic yet.
what is good, is that he squad is coming together at the best possible time. often get players dropping like flies at this point, due to fatigue and fixture pile ups. we've got tedic and thomas back in the fold, larkeche pushing cadden hard, Russell and Phillips battling for a shirt, cotter looking more than capable. still annoyed with watters putting himself out for 3 matches, but hopefully he learns from it and comes back with goals
Think we’ll finish 4th or 5th. We’ll comfortably see off Bolton and Wycombe but no way Wendy drop enough points and think Plymouth will fall over the line. Play offs will be tough though. Gun to head I’d say us or Derby to win at Wembley but wouldn’t put any money on it!
I agree. The longer Duff has been at Oakwell, the better things have got. I think the recruitment team deserves a great deal of credit too for strengthening the squad well on a very limited budget.
Look at it another way, we've got to score 13 more points than either Wednesday or Plymouth in the final 16 games of the season. That's a huge ask, considering Plymouth have dropped just 5 points at home all season. That's without considering the form of Ipswich, Bolton and Derby, who already have more points on the board than us. It's just too much of an ask for me. What's more achievable is to score more points than Wycombe, or even Derby, Bolton or Ipswich.
Yes I’ve a feeling a wobble is incoming but they have a bit of a gap and lots of games coming up where the chasing pack will take points off each other.
Personally, I'm still just enjoying such a big away win, a rare beast in my years of following us. Later on this week, my attention will switch to the home game with Derby. I'm not going to look any further than that. This has been a good season so far, much better than most expected. I've no idea where we'll finish and won't tempt fate with any rash predictions. Keep up the good work, Mr Duff.
I think top 6 is realistic. March fixtures are key for us at least holding our own in those & then pushing on.
Top two’s wishful thinking. We’ve got a lot of very tough games coming up & it feels like there's 7 good teams in this league. I just hope we don’t end up finishing 7th. Whoever misses out will feel hard done to unless they seriously drop off the pace.
I think if we beat the teams around us in the next month we'll make the top 2. If we don't we won't and it'll be the Play-Offs. Just enjoying this season.
