Firstly, credit to the Athersley Reds for suggesting the scarf day. There’s a few teams do it, Leeds, Fulham but to name two but it certainly brings colour and atmosphere and I’m sure the lads on the pitch were spurred on by that.

What I’d like to say is that I’ve seen a few posts on social media saying that the club should make the next game scarf day too. I disagree.

It’s not up to the club. They’ve listened and promoted it. Now it’s up to us, the fans, to carry it on and improve it. Let’s, bring the scarfs to every match, get them twirling again, let’s get the flags waving, let’s get Granty a tannoy (see WSB) let’s get the East and West Stands losing our voices and joining in/ interacting with the Ponty. We can be the twelfth man. We can make Oakwell a fortress again.

I’m under no illusions that we haven’t got the best squad in the division but we have got a bunch of honest lads punching for a manager that has given the club back to the town (and to those of us who are adopted) and they deserve our backing.

LET’S GET BEHIND THEM - COME ON YOU REDS!

We return to the UK on the 17th of March. The next home game after that is the massives. I for one will be there with my scarf COYR!

This is the point. The idea of scarf day was simple - instigate an improved atmosphere. Get the CEO, players and manager out there and tell everyone how vital the fans’ support is. Which it is.

    And it worked.

Great turnout (20 is plenty), superb sea of red scarves, outstanding backing for the players, the team respond exactly as suggested.

But you’re right. The club can’t hold scarf day every day. It’s over to the fans. Make each home game the same. It’s not costing any extra cash. Just bring a scarf, flag, whatever and get behind the team.

Same prices against Pompey. Tuesday night of course and I don’t think they’ll be bringing much more than 1,000 up from Portsmouth. But even better. More hostile. Make it intimidating. Another chance to shine.

As long as it's not a white one - we don't want to admit surrender! Alternatively, draw a Toby Tyke on it and it will be fine. ;-)
