In 05/06 we scored 5 against Scunthorpe in the league followed by 5 against Bradford in the cup, after extra time. When was the last league game where we scored at least 4 in 2 consecutive games? Before the weekend of course.
Yes so did I. I was stationed at RAF Digby at the time, near Lincoln, and I took a few other lads with me to Field Mill, none of them Barnsley fans. I had been telling them how good that Reds side were and that they would definitely enjoy it. They did!
I believe it's the first time in 20 years or so that we've scored 3 or more in three successive league games too.
The goal difference column is looking much better just now, the 4 against Derby "counting double", with us being so close in the table.
Seems like yesterday. Lovely Spring evening and my RAF mates watching our Rolls Royce centre half Ian Evans score a lovely header and asking me how can Barnsley have a player like that!!
The same question could have been asked about several players in that team. We’d struggle to keep hold of such players nowadays in the Championship let alone the old 3rd division that we were in at the time. Football at all levels was a much level playing field back then. Well before Sky ruined everything….
Great. What's it look like for 4 games.... Eldest has twisted my arm to go to Bristol Saturday and I've chucked in an hotel for the night too. Hopefully we can make a new record then. But if not, at least it's a dad/son weekend out/away
After this weekend they will have to look for the last time we've scored 4 plus goals in three consecutive league games.
