I love MOTD to be fair, folk know what they're getting. It's been such a staple of Saturday nights for so long.

If people want just highlights, then Sky have them online by 5.30pm on a Saturday.

Leave MOTD alone for those who like it.

Presenting some games too? Same thing don't need to pay someone that much to present. It's just unnecessary in my opinion.

I don’t mind not having the pundits but it was strange without the comentators

Could be wrong, it's been a while since I've looked into it and I don't have time or the desire right now, but are the BBC not in breach of disability regulations by having no commentary?

Why single him out though in terms of salary? At least he was top of his profession, is articulate and engages with the viewer. There's far worse presenters ( imo) on tv who no doubt get similar wages. Its not an easy job presenting, the reason you think it is is because they make it seem easy, like anything.

When I go to a game I don’t have a commentator speaking in my ear broadcasting his usually totally ill informed mundane opinions.
I just watch and make my own judgments on what I’m watching.
So same as I watch in the house where I watch a game with the sound off and some background music being played.
The thought of Jonathon Pierce boring me to death is just unbearable.

True, but it's different when you're actually there to watching on telly.

I find commentary distracting to be honest Ian. I find myself half glazing over what's happening on the pitch as I'm listening to what's being said. Being there live or watching the game without commentary you're fully focused on what's going on on the pitch.

Whether you enjoy it or not is a moot point, but "totally ill-informed"??!? You should try putting in the time & research that the commentators do when they're doing their prep work ahead of games.

Didn't single him out the thread is about him. He also one of the top earners. I've no doubt its a very hard job but I think you could get someone just as good for a 10th of the salary.

Could well be, wonder if audio description was still available? That might cover it.

Watched part of it. I’ll be honest I normally fast forward the punditry but it’s there if I want it. I don’t like the lack of commentary especially for a highlights program. But as others have said it’s not really the point at stake here.

Cut and pasted from Sky news.

There's something very interesting to note in Match of the Day viewing figures from last night.

The programme, which was broadcast without hosts and pundits after Gary Lineker was asked to "step back" over a tweet, was watched by 500,000 more viewers than the previous week.

Last night's Match of the Day had focused on "match action" - and only lasted half an hour.

Yesterday's programme was watched by 2.58 million TV viewers on BBC One, according to BARB figures, which does not account for people watching it on BBC iPlayer.

This is up nearly half a million on last Saturday's 2.09 million.

It would make last night's MOTD the most-watched since 5 November 2022.

I didn't watch it, Road House was on 5star.
