Isn’t the law ‘where the foul ends’ now though? Not seen it back but at the time i thought first contact was outside but carried on into the box.
From the highlights it looked a pen to me. Not sure where the offside was for Kane’s goal either, which is a shame because it was another excellent finish
I don't know, haven't seen a replay. Kind of glad we didn't get it though, as, in my book (not that I have a book), a goal direct from a freekick is way more prestigious than a penalty. Similarly, I'm glad Mike Riley didn't give the penalty at Old Trafford. It was blatant, but if he had, we wouldn't have got the maungy spoilt toowats back to Oakwell and given them a proper stuffing.
The line is part of the area. If the foul is committed on the line then the correct decision is penalty. For what it's worth I'd been saying all match that this was the one where we get a penalty (and probably miss it!). At first I thought we'd got one but when the free kick was given I was kind of happy as I had a hunch we'd score it and as someone said earlier a free kick goal feels like it's worth more than one from the spot.
The tackle/foul takes place about half a yard before the line, and Thomas falls into the area. Yeah, I felt an air of inevitability about the free kick going in. With the way we're playing at the minute, you just expect us to score at least 3 every game, particularly at home. It's a bit like how we were under big Val, I always felt like we were going to score. I didn't always know when, but it became an expectation rather than a hope.
