Definitely. Been a couple of times to San Diego staying there for a week last time and I really like it and there's lots to see/do.

Oh yeah. Grand Canyon / Hoover Dam trip from Vegas (helicopter ones are good if you have the budget). Jump off the Stratosphere also.

Thanks, Gally, that’s all great info. I’d love more days in San Francisco but I think it’s going to be the most expensive part of our trip (we’re not doing hostels). In terms of stopping at more places on the drive up, that’s the bit that’s hard for us. Each extra stop adds extra worry. Neither of us are very good at arriving somewhere new and exploring. It takes us a few days to settle and I think we’d get less out of being constantly on the move than having a base for a few days to return to. It’s something we’re trying to create a balance with and we’ve probably already exceeded our limit with our plans so far.

Been to LA, Vegas and the Grand Canyon. LA has been well covered, so other than that I'd recommend the Grand Canyon as it's one of the only things I've ever visited where I don't think any number of photos or anything can do it justice. It's just incredible. Did a coach trip from Vegas, up very early in the morning and I think back for tea time. Vegas is what it is, I loved it and even though I'm a massive anti-smoker it didn't bother me too much. Just spend most of your time outside, in smoke-free restaurants and get a non-smoking room (very important!).

    Most of all, enjoy.

Yep that's what I did, mine took the Dam in too. The helicopter ride at the GC looks incredible, we did one over the Las Vegas strip at night which was pretty amazing! My only time in a helicopter to date.

A coach trip out is appealing, I’m going to look into that!

There's one where they take you out to some sort of glass ledge that goes over the Canyon if you are feeling brave :D

I found the game itself boring as hell. The entertainment / "match day experience" though was incredible. Must be 15 years ago that I went to a baseball game and always figured we'd be doing something like that over here eventually. Still no where near.

If driving on the Pacific highway 1 from LA to San Fran I’d recommend both Santa Barbera and SAN Luis Obispo (sp) as great places to stop off/over. Route 1 really is a beautiful run so if possible try to take an extra day and really take the time to pull over and explore. Santa Monica is nice place to visit, and we were fortunate enough to be there for the 9/11 Memorial Day when the police toured the pier with squad cars decorated with the names of all the fallen servicemen. Quite moving. Also don’t worry too much about the indoor smoking area in casinos in Vegas. A few places have non smoking areas however the air conditioning and fans they have in place means that after the initial whiff of smoke, you’ll probably not notice it, oh, and most importantly, take your camera and have loads of fun.

I'd struggle I think. I went on this "infinity bridge" on the cruise ship we took last October with my daughter. She just went across no issues. I wasn't quite so confident even though I knew it was perfectly safe:

My only advice is don’t bother with LA. Maybe worth a day or 2 (Bel air is ok and Rodeo Drive)

We had a week in LA and were bored sh4tless

I would agree with this…although a fantastic place if being stuck in traffic jams is your bag.

Things like this never bothered me until I had an inner ear problem and now even a shaky camera angle sends me what feels like head over heels off the edge of a cliff. I hate it.
