Yes he got it wrong and it was a stonewall pen and a sending off. But he didn't lose us the game he didn't play in goal and let a soft goal in at the near post. We still had 77 minutes to win that game.
But a man down and possibly a goal up its a completely different game then But agree we should have took our chances
I would normally agree but yesterday i thought he did lose us the game' us scoring the pen (probably) and Burton going down to 10 for 70+ minutes would have us winning the game comfortably i think' i didn't think the lads did a lot wrong yesterday it was just one of those days and that reffing decision could be massive at the end of the season.
Not sure why this needs another thread like, especially as you've also made the same point in a different thread. But hey. All shoulda woulda coulda, and we may have missed the pen anyway. But seems very unlikely that the game pans out how it did, if the ref had done his job. Very much doubt they would have gone 2-0 up with 10 men.
We did have 77 minutes to win the game and we should have done. You are correct. But the referee did lose us the game. Had he done his job remotely competently we’d have had about 80 minutes v ten men, with a pretty high probability of also being one nil up. It is hard to see any likelihood of losing the game from there. We’ll never know, and we could and should have won the game anyway, but the single biggest contribution to them winning yesterday wasn’t McGillivray playing very well, Isted making another error, or us being wasteful in possession. They all contributed, of course they did, but the biggest contributing factor was them not being reduced to ten men and us not being awarded a penalty to take the lead. I’ve slept on it, I’m fresh and sober (I hadn’t had a drink anyway to be fair), and I’m still angry at the decision. It is so laughably obvious I can’t see any possible way he can get that wrong. The fact that he was called out for incompetence by a non-league manager in a non-league game less than a year ago, yet he still finds himself refereeing a game which will influence promotion two divisions higher despite clearly not being up to the task (aside from the penalty he was poor all game let’s be honest) raises a question that the pgmol and efl need to answer. It really isn’t good enough.
Well I keep seeing the same old thing. Last week kane touched the free kick twice before we went 1 up at hone to morcombe so the goal should have been ruled out not sure the result would have been different. At home to Wednesday they had a big shout for handball what looked nailed on to me at 2-2. I think refs are of a very poor standard in this league. Yesterday isteds had 2 saves to make and made 0. We dominated the game for long spells but it just didn't happen had some good chances. We should have won Burton are Burton they are were they are for a reason. We should have won but we can't just blame the ref for not.
I agree with most of that. I'm not sure many people are only blaming the ref for us losing the game though. They're blaming the ref for making one of the worst decisions you will ever see. I totally get the fans' frustration. As Duff himself said - mind blowing. Without having any opinion of what the final result may have been, we've had a clear goal denied. The clearest penalty and red card you will ever see.
Plus why haven't we had a penalty all season we should have had about a dozen but no ref will give Barnsley a pen. Why?
Promotion winning teams win those games irrespective of the abysmal refereeing performance. As you mentioned, Burton are where they are for a reason. Slightly concerning that our last 2 away performances haven't been good. We made Exeter look fantastic and Bolton went and won down there yesterday. I think Duff has done an amazing job so far but I do fear for us if Wednesday and Bolton are in the play offs along with us.
I think bolton will be on a high from the jpt final and that could really help them now. On our day we can beat anyone in this league and duff has done a great job with a squad I thought would struggle to reach the play offs. Like you say we should have found a way to beat burton despite the poor ref decision.
