Some of the comments on the match day thread are utterly embarrassing, in fact the sort of stuff we take the piss out of the Fowls for! It’s not that long since some were saying the play offs were beyond us, then we turned it round. Then we had a good chance of the play offs that turned into an outside chance of automatics ( that’s still there btw however slim) . We have no god given right to win any game,Lincoln have a good home record so it was always going to be difficult and so it proved. It’s only a short time since Duff was being lauded as a really good manager ( he still is) but yet folk are piling in on tactics subs etc. Coming back from the way we started the season, at least we look sure of the play offs while teams who were well above us at one time are still scrambling for points. Personally I think a decisive factor in this season has been penalties, in our case lack of them and in the case of our rivals a glut of them. Anyway , we go again on Saturday, but Jeez seems to me some folk should have a long hard look at the stuff they have posted tonight!
We've blown automatic promotion FFS. Look at the League Table and tell me where we are tonight with wins at Exeter, Burton and Lincoln. Then go back to putting up your welcome home Play-Off bunting out.
But you can't make players who are not quite good enough go and win these games. We have no divine right to win.
Plymouth have lost to Lincoln, Port Vale and drawn to Cambridge and Burton. Sheff Weds have lost to Burton, forest green and drawn to Cheltenham and Oxford. Ipswich have lost to Oxford, and Wycombe and drawn to Cheltenham and Bristol rovers. Bad results happen. If all the fans were offered guaranteed play offs with 4 games to go I reckon 90% would’ve have snapped your hands off for it. Your problem is you’re an overly negative person who loves to throw his toys out of the pram, whether it’s to do with Barnsley FC, this board or being a Tory.
I thought they were defensively excellent. But we needed to show far more creativity than we did to get past them. That's the disappointing part for me.
Sack them all then. The players are *****, Duff's *****. Sack them all it's a disgrace being a few points off top. Absolutely disgusting considering we are the biggest team in world football. Booooo
I like you Dawson, I think you're a genuine bloke, but youre so unnecessarily reactive after every match we struggle with as though its end of the world. Every team around us have lost to teams you mention. Please start looking at the bigger picture and stop being so passive aggressive all the time
For me there's a big void between the strikers and midfield. We long, or even from midfield, send it hopefully to Norwood etc. With nobody to run at them to create havoc. None of our midfield can beat a man. Thomas L should make an effort to do so but he's been awful recently. We try out wide for service but Williams J seems to have lost control of his feet and speed and Cadden is benched whilst we all can see his replacement has no natural attacking impulse in his body. All things considered, with the squad he has, if Duff can get us up he's a friggin genius.
Generally agree with that. Our midfield picked up the first and second balls very well last night, but more often than not wasted the ball. Larkeche was off the pace, even Luca Connell's distribution was wayward, and Luke Thomas was diabolical when he came on. Lincoln really didn't make it easy for us, but we should have had the nous to break them down. Cadden was a huge miss.
But we are where we are cos we're not good enough for top two.. if you can't enjoy this season choose what outcome then go and support Man City, they win everything.
We haven't "blown" automatic promotion. Never been higher than 4th all season. 82 points with 4 to go. Lincolns record v top 4 is W3 D5 L0. It's a good point and less frustrating actually as other 3 all won. Yes we can play better, yes we will need to play better in play offs but "blown" automatic? Behave......
It seems we did ourselves no favours by getting ourself into a position where promotion via the autos was even a possibility, by being superb for weeks. It seems like only yesterday that we were outside the top 6 trying to catch Derby. Look at the table now, we are home and dry for the play offs whereas Derby, Bolton and Peterborough are battling it out with only a point between them. It was always a long shot to get autos. But by getting so close we now get embarrassing posts like this one, suggesting somehow we have failed. Personally, I am glad that, if autos wasn't going to happen, it became clear quickly rather than still having an outside chance all the way to the last game. I said as much a couple of weeks ago. Its done now, relax, and prepare for the play offs. Take the pressure off. If we fail to win promotion in the play offs, it will still have been a great season and we go again in August and win it next time.
Total over reactions from some but football, when supporting your team is a passionate affair. I am disappointed we didn't get 3 points but like Exeter, the way Lincoln set up is hard for us to break down. The imps are tidy, defensively very good....can play neat triangles but do lack overall quality. We do have to work out how to beat them though. First half, the long balls were very poor ....second half we seemed more deliberate in our build up (not as many long balls into the channels). Credit our opponents they have stopped a lot of the top teams beating them and I thought a draw was fair, we hardly had any shots on target and consequently they didn't trouble us. Our coach has done brilliantly to get us where we are. New expections mean we are disappointed when we don't win. I would have definitely took 4th at the start of the season thats for sure.
