W25 D7 L10. You've got to capitalise on a weak Championship and they have. Just shows 10 losses in a season can get you promoted. We have every right to be proud whether we win the Playoffs or not
If we don’t win the playoffs we might as well have finished fifth bottom, same net result. However a top four finish, which we will achieve, and a total of more than likely more than 85 points is a great achievement considering where we were in the summer, so we did ought to be proud. But if we did miss out there will be an inevitable sense of disappointment at the missed opportunity, as our recent away form, the game at Forest Green aside, has let us down at the wrong time of the season.
Lack of quality in final third when it matters has cost us. Been a terrific season whatever happens. One final push for the play offs but it’s gonna be tough for sure….
Surely it’s more we got off to a poor start whilst Duff sorted out the side. If we had started the season at the start of November I think we would be comfortably top 2 Also we are unfortunate that this season 3 teams have had exceptional runs. Another season we would still have Automatic in our own hands with 82 points and 4 games to go
In so far as we remain in League 1, yes - but in pretty much every other way, no. Being in the top 6 gets us more prize money than 5th bottom. Maybe not earth shatteringly different values but we can't afford to turn up our noses at a few quid. Speaking of which, being in the play offs should guarantee a big gate for at least one more match - again more money. If we make the final I'm pretty sure that will be more money. Finishing 5th bottom would no doubt mean we were guaranteed to lose any player that had a hint of ambition. Finishing top 6 might make them think that next season might be worth sticking around for - why move on to a lower Championship side to potentially bench warm when they can have a season as part of a winning side and enhance their reputation? If we finished 5th bottom it would likely mean Duff would have failed to meet the board's expectations and would be sacked. Compensation payable and the cost of looking for a new boss. Currently we're all pretty happy with him and he looks set to stick around and build something (or, if he does move on, we'd be receiving rather than paying compensation). I guarantee that if we were currently 5th bottom we wouldn't have had the big crowds and great atmospheres we've had at recent matches. A number of those fans will be kids who hopefully catch the bug and attend at least semi regularly. 5th bottom? Those kids follow the massives or whoever they watch on Sky. Why are people so set on belittling what's been achieved this season? We have over achieved in pretty much every measure, recorded a (deserved) double over our neighbours and begun the process of rebuilding the relationship between club and fans. Bit yeah, if we fail to go up we may as well have scraped survival...
There isn’t a sliding scale for prize money in leagues one and two. Doesn’t work like that at this level. We get the efl funding plus the premier league solidarity payment. That is what my post eluded to. The fact that we would be in league one again regardless and get the same money regardless. And you’ve focussed on the first paragraph and ignored the rest of the post which made clear what my thoughts on the season actually are.
