Evening all, No doubt this topic has probably been discussed at some point, but I’ll ask anyway. I’m currently with Sky for my broadband and have got their Ultrafast package. However, it’s proving to be unreliable with issues dropping connection and the signal not being so great upstairs. I’m thinking about switching to BT and the Fibre 2 package, which upgrades free to full fibre when it’s available in our area. There’s also a £3 per month charge for complete Wi-fi which guarantees connection everywhere in the house (or £100 back apparently). They then also have something called Hybrid connect for an extra £7 pm. I need to run the numbers, but can anyone offer any advice or experiences of being with BT and their broadband offerings? The kids are also on at me as it’s disrupting their online gaming sessions as well so the pressure’s on to get something sorted out. TIA.
BT have always been rock solid for me. Have tried others, but always ended up back at BT. Have a look at EE as well, as they're now basically BT, but might have different offers. Stay a billion miles away from Virgin - no matter how good their deals are.
My Internet connection is incredibly cheap, just £15 per month via Three mobile with speeds up to about 80Mb/s. It's very reliable too, it hardly ever dro
BT works perfect for me. I found their 'discs' to be a bit of a gimmick and not very good. I now use the BT Hub as the modem and a NETGEAR Wireless Access Point (WAX204) for the WiFi. It gives full coverage in the house and the garden.
BT for about 20 years here. Never an issue so have not been tempted to try elsewhere. Only downside to that I miss out on new customer deals. Recently went to full fibre, supposedly 700Mbps, ironically just at the time the kids are moving out, so it is more than enough for my Spotify. Didn't do the disc thing, but got TP+Link Decos (x3) so like the poster above, router is used in modem mode.
Been with Virgin since the interweb was invented & never had an issue (apart from price hikes ) Not been down for more than an hour or two, and only a handful of times. Lightning fast. Don't have a lot of choice, it should be said, as Openreach haven't done the necessaries round here to give us an option.
First of all, decide what your problem is, is it broadband, or is it qwifi. If wifi, is there any point changing when you could get a mesh, or better wifi setup. If it's the broadband itself, chances are, the fault will be transferred with you depending on where the fault is. EDIT: check when full fibre will be available, because it's looking like 2026 for most of Barnsley.
Sky also have a Boost option, for an extra £3 I think. We had some coverage issues, but this sorted them out and has been very reliable since we got it.
