He's a brilliant keeper and chuffed that we've got him but it's early days to be calling him an all time great. I only go back as far as Clive Baker but we've been blessed with some great keepers over the years
He’s going to go somewhere that will give him first choice on a starting spot. At that moment that’s here. I asked him last week when my son was talking to him as part of the junior takeover if he was going to sign for us and he actually said “it depends if they want me” politicians diplomatic answer but there you go but he did say he’s loved his time at the club so far.
“It depends if they want me” = “it depends how much they offer me”! He’s done very well since he came here. Is he better than Collins? Not sure, but they are two very good keepers at our level. Collins only has one year left on his contract though, so this is the point that we usually sell players. If Collins doesn’t want to sign a new contract he will be sold. If Isted is prepared to sign and his salary is lower, it’s a done deal. But I’d be happy if either of them commit to us for another 3 years.
Goalkeepers are hard to dislodge. Given what Gally says of the situation at luton, that does not appear to be on the cards for a return. Else he would have had a right chance of the No1 spot, as it will become vacant if the present one goes back to his parent club. Hope he gets an offer that he is happy with, to come tut tarn, It would be a fantastic signing and a he would be a valuable asset in my view.
I dont get this " he has made one or two mistakes lately " comment, of course he has & so has every other player in this league , it is the third division !! fans get fed a diet of premier league football down our throats on tv & expect to rock up to Oakwell & see the same standard , well its not going to happen because we are watching 3rd level players but my goodness our players are some of the best there are at this level with Isted being a prime example , he has been outstanding for us & I would love for us to sign him permanently .
He was also apparently not a big fan of our own David Watson when he worked with him at Southampton. He thought he was miserable but that didn’t come via Isted. That story was relayed by someone else.
Anyone would think top goalies don't make mistakes. Gary Sprake anyone. Once threw the ball in his own net. I kid ye not young uns.
I think you are overstating his value a little. This isn’t to say I don’t rate him - I do - but don’t get carried away. There won’t be championship clubs queuing up to sign him. I doubt that many clubs at all. I’d suggest if we want him and make a fair offer we’ve a good chance, even if still in league one. He’d made a grand total of three football league appearances before signing for us on loan, and he’s 26, not a baby. One of those was off the bench. He’s not old of course for a keeper - but he’s made not even a hundred senior appearances and the majority of those in non-league. Top clubs won’t be banging his agent’s door down.
I don't think so. I think your heart rules your head. He's quality, simple as. Goalkeepers are notoriously late at claiming a spot from an established keeper. No of games at certain levels don't allus mean to say you are not ready. Ask Gary Birtles and Darren Sheridan.
It’s all in our court now if we want to convince him for the future. I do think little things like the fans chanting his name helps but I guess we need to resolve the Collins situation cos I don’t think he’s going to stick around to be just a sub goalie either.
Presuming they don't sign another keeper, being 4th choice keeper even in the Premier League isn't very appealing.
You are spot on , look at de Gea the other night for Man Utd , Ramsdale for Arsenal on friday , right howlers but they are both top top keepers with top defenders in front of them, our keepers are third division with third division defenders in front of them & as soon as a suspect goal goes in some of our lot are finding fault & calling for their heads , unbelievable & that is the word I would use to describe Isted since he has been here , he has been unbelievable !!! more of the same please Harry
Isted has been excellent since he joined, absolutely no doubt about that. The save at the end yesterday was superb. I've said this before though, I don't understand why he's playing in front of Collins, and his performance yesterday doesn't change that. Collins is our contracted keeper and was in superb form himself before he got injured. I get that we needed a loan to cover the injury, but for me once Collins was fit he should play. The way it's gone, one of our most obvious assets is now sat on the bench, and presumably will be more likely to leave in the summer as a result. We'll likely get much less for him now than if he'd played all season. Unless Isted signs for a nominal fee or on a free, and for a lower wage than Collins, I don't see how this benefits BFC. If he doesn't, we'll have lost two keepers by the summer and will be recruiting two from scratch.
By your way of thinking then none of our loan players should be in the team as we have contracted players who can play in their positions , the reason we have loan players is to strengthen the squad without splashing out transfer fees & also to bring quality to the squad we would not be able to afford , with Isted he was brought in because Walton moved on the same Walton who was in competition with Collins for the goalkeeping spot , Collins got injured & Isted took his place , once Collins was fit again the competition for the number 1 spot between the two was up & running & without a doubt Isted has proved with the form that he has shown that he should keep the shirt but should he get injured or his form drop then Collins will return ,but what you are saying is that Collins has the divine right to the shirt & that cannot be right , Isted has to continue , he has been magnificent .
