Just walked down and it’s gridlocked with people trying u turns to go back up and others trying to reverse back to the bottom. When is this madness ever going to end?

It's a road... why do people think it's normal to walk in a road?

Time it was closed off during matchdays, apart from for residents.

Because there simply isn't enough space for all the pedestrians to use the path? Yup, I think that's it.

That wasn’t the problem. Parked cars both sides and traffic going up and down equals chaos

There's no footpath on one side and you've got 1000s of people using it. Why do they close Schwabisch Gmund way then. Surely that's a road.

I’m sure they used to stop cars parking there on match days.

Because it’s directly outside the railway station where you have the potential of both home and away fans arriving by public transport, and is also the route pedestrians are advised to take due to the closure of the temporary bridge.

Oakwell isn’t really in the best location to accommodate large amounts of vehicles all at once. Why anybody attempts to drive on Oakwell Lane before and after a game is beyond me. Even when Market Gate Bridge opens, Oakwell Lane will still be rammed - always has been.

Yeah, I realise. It was more a response to the " Why do people think its OK to walk on a road " comment about Oakwell Lane.

Same at the end of the game. Single lane available down the middle and the usual going up and down traffic just could not cope

Plenty of other clubs close off roads near their ground other than resident access around match times. No idea why the same can't be done on Oakwell Lane

I walked down there last night at about the same time as the OP & it was crazy , surely simply making it a one way street going from top to bottom would cure a lot of the problems , apart from from getting gridlocked on match day the bad bend problem & residents cars being parked problem would be eliminated .
