..is it me or are the headlines a little misleading?
Whilst the statistic on individual councillor seat losses/gains effectively indicates peoples overall dis-satisfaction with the central Govt, in practical terms it doesn't really effect any change unless those seat losses translate to a change in overall control of a council. Also, local elections don't always translate to GEs.

The problem is that, looking at the A-Z table on the BBC of results as they come in, for all the LD and Labour gains, the majority have not really resulted effective change. Many are showing Conservative held Councils as 'HOLD' or 'LOSS -No overall control.
It needs more than a bloody nose to hit the Govt but a knockout blow. Whether the full results show huge losses or council control or just reduced majorities will determine whether Sunak takes anything from teh whole exercise. Even then I suspect they will just plough on regardless. All parties will probably claim victory or simply claim things are not as bad as they predicted. Will be interesting to see what theturnout was. IMO that is a big indicator of how apathetic or dissillusioned people are and whther Labour are seen a credible alternative to the current 'sh*tshow' 'running' things now.:(

I had no idea there were local elections until I saw it on here last night. But then I don't watch the news. And everything I've ever voted for hasn't come to fruition. And I'm not supposed to comment on political threads, so I'll leave it there :) Buona giornata Tekky.

Early days but Labour have a couple of results where they’ve taken control of Councils Plymouth and Medway . Think the overall result will indicate a hung Parliament if converted to a general election

You need to bear in mind though that it is only one third of the seats in each council that are up for grabs, so areas where a particular party has a big majority are less likely to change control.

John Shuttleworth would be a credible alternative to Sunak and co.

Just been reading where it looks like the Tories look like losing around 1000 more seats than they first feared. As has already been said, not all Council seats were up for election and of course there’s the situation in Scotland, where Labour are projected to make significant gains. There are things I don’t like about Kier Starmer and his party, but it almost pales into insignificance when compared to the govt and it’s many rotten MPs

And these seats were last contested when the Tories were at a low ebb under Theresa May.

Conservative Party raised taxes and have failed to stem immigration so their base isn’t happy. Starmer u-turned on all his socialist policies. So both bases are pretty underwhelmed. Neither have any charisma. Unless you are really desperate to “get the Tories out” I can’t see why you’d bother voting. You’d still have to fancy Labour at a GE but can’t see it being a major landslide looking at these results so far

I think many are really desperate to get the Tories out, that’s why you hear disillusioned traditional Labour voters saying they’ll they’ll vote Labour. These results will be quite damming for the Tories, but I wouldn’t use them to say Labour will or won’t get a major landslide in a GE, particularly with what’s happening in Scotland

the turnout on the parish council elections looks really poor. looking like <25% across the board. so 75 out of 100 people simply can't be ar$ed. I wonder how many hours a year this 75% spend on social media, bairning about local issues?

Does my head in. If you're not going to vote then don't ever whinge about the state of the country or politics, as far as I'm concerned.

A 'hanged' parliament would be better IMO (or at least some individuals there);)
On a serious note I hope not. The last coalition , in spite of Lib /Dems reining some of the Cons excesses was hardly a rip roaring success.
The two main parties are so plarised it would be almost impossible to get a consensus on just about evey major issue. you only have to look at the US to see that any progressive policies get blocked

We've heard it all before. Don't think it will change much in the grand scheme of things. Sorry, not supposed to comment on political threads, I'm made out to be some dragon from another world. Gaslit te fek.

I don’t know what your political persuasion is but anyone defending or voting Tory after the last 13 years needs serious help. Last night council elections aren’t really indicative of which way a GE will go but anytime a Tory loses a vote in any election it’s generally a good thing.

Since I could vote 18 years ago, the Tories have always lost a vote. I also voted remain. No vote has ever gone in my favour and I feel disillusioned with the whole shebang. I also don't have any faith in Starmer. But I'll end it there, I really should keep my beak shut. The character assassination last time out at my expense wasn't worth it. And it still isn't. So come on reds play-offs approaching! :):)

Maybe the solution to your losing streak is Proportional Representation ?

Just can’t see Starmer overturning a Tory 80 seat majority to do that he’d have to better Bliar in the 90’s

I wouldn't be surprised if this new voter ID bo****s hasn't suppressed the turnout. My area hasn't got elections this year but on checking the criteria I have no acceptable voter ID.
