In central midfield, if Callum Styles was back in our squad for the playoffs would he get into our 3 man midfield assuming all are fit, and who’s spot would he get?

Not sure he'd get in even as a wing back, where he played his best football. Maybe get in for Phillips but he's a different type of player.

Wouldn't mind him being on the bench for the playoffs.

Think season long loans are up to the end of May?
Don't think loan players can come back into the squad for the play offs. Same would apply to Jasper Moon.

Think the OP is asking a hypothetical question.

I won’t be popular for saying this but I think he’d walk into the team on the left of the middle three where Kane plays.

That either means benching Kane or moving him to the right and benching Phillips. Either way, for me, Callum hypothetical Styles gets in my eleven. I think he’s better than Kane overall though there’s not a stack in that; I feel he’d also add a bit of balance - how many times have we seen Kane get outside Cadden and turn back and pass to Kitching, slowing the play when we had two strikers in the box with the defence mobile and not set?

Think a left footer would add something there - and he’s more direct than the current version of Luke Thomas as well, Luke has looked quite safe and guarded since coming back from injury, he looked dangerous early in the season being direct and incisive.

It was just a hypothetical question.
Was just asking for others’ opinions.
I would do exactly what Troff suggests and move Kane to the right, and drop Phillips.

I still reckon he walks into our LWB position if he’s in Ismael season form.

Styles could very well find himself taking Kane's place next season, unless Kane signs a contract extension.

He’s back in the Millwall team so maybe a permanent deal is lined up. Big fee hopefully

I’ve been critical of Styles playing in midfield in the past, but seeing how Duff has us set up Styles would be great in that role Herbie Kane plays currently. Ideally with being right footed Kane & Phillips would be rotated & Thomas & Styles would be rotated on the other side, with Connell & Phillips’s roles being in the middle. Pity the rules wouldn’t allow it, but next season Styles could be a crowd favourite again if he stays.

He would certainly be in the team for me & for people to say they would not have him in I ask a simple question , if a player is good enough to play in a team going into the championship play offs why would that player not be good enough to get in a team in the division below ?

I think the midfield has done fine without him every midfielder has scored and assisted and its been a strong point of a good season. Why would you instantly put him in and upset the team. Plus I wasn't ever convinced by him at wing back or center midfield last season.

I would put him in before Philips but I am not sure why last seasons form should come into it, it was in the championship in a poor team & being run by successive coaches who hadn"t a clue but one coach who has got a clue is doing a fine job at Millwall & Styles a current full international plays an integral part of that unit , he is championship class tried & tested & would certainly improve our team , however the op threw this out for peoples opinions & thats all it is , it is my opinion which counts for nothing as it is cannot happen & is only a hypothetical question .

He was bobbins in the middle. LWB was where he won all his plaudits and admirers, but not sure he'd displace Cadden at the minute.

Hopefully. Any fee for Styles plus any sell ons that might occur for the likes of Morris, Holgate etc will help keep as much of the current team together as possible

Phillips had 8 goals this season and 9 assists from midfield. He's one of our strongest players I'm not swapping him for styles sorry.
Millwall have done well this season but footballs a team game.

Styles is a current international playing at a higher level , if any of our current midfield players were better than Styles then they would also being playing at a higher level but they are not , Philips goals & contribution have been fantastic & I really like him but the question was who would I leave out for Styles & he would be my choice, there is a big difference between the quality of the leagues & Styles is a proven championship player , surely we are not that arrogant to suggest our players are better than established championship players .
