They have lost for 4 or 5 in by elections since the GE. The last election was a brexit election the next one isnt alot of people voted tory because they had a **** idea which was put through and labour didnt come with anything.

I think barnsley had two go from red to blue i expect these to go back and this trend everywhere takes it away from the millionaires sat on the tory front bench

Is this the instance when you were making baseless, incorrect assumptions about the protestors involved with the Just Stop Oil stuff?

On about Gaslighting and then just repeating the assumptions the media has told you. Lovely.

Tories - 'We anticipated some disappointing results. These things tend to happen mid-term to all governments and once our message gets through and people realise how reckless Labour would be in power we'll see significant upturn by the time of the general election ' (we're crap, corrupt and have no ideas and are being found out for being nasty. Hopefully things won't be a total disaster in the general election though)

LibDems - 'We now see the results of Tory rule and its not surprising people are flocking back to us. Mismanagement nationally and contempt for local issues like river sewage show that there is an alternative' (Woopee - people have remembered we exist! Lets hope it stays that way)

Labour - 'We are clearly a government in waiting. Chaos and economic mismanagement from the Tories mean people are looking for a genuine alternative' (We are doing really well without actually saying anything at all. If this carries on we're in!)

Greens - 'We continue to make inroads at local level as people increasingly see there is a cleaner, fairer more sustainable future' (We just carry on chipping away at things and hope we get a bit more momentum)

I don’t disagree Labour should take back the red wall seats but they’ll need something like a 12% swing to overturn a 80 seat majority and gain a fair few in Scotland to have their own majority

I think there will be a lot of implicit tactical voting - whoever is most likely to beat the Tory incumbent - because of the First Past the Post "system", you don't need a uniform 12% swing to take the seats which will get you a majority, especially if the Libs are taking seats off the Tories elsewhere. The problem you've got is if you pile up votes in safe seats - every vote passed the one which beats whoever is in second place is in effect a waste of time - that's why the current system needs scrapping, would lead to more parties, more choice and less government by dictatorship where you can have 3 Prime minsters since the last time anyone voted for any of them.

If Labour don’t get a majority in the next election they might as well give up.

Loads in the last general election only voted to ‘get Brexit done’. They got annihilated in leave seats. Many of them would’ve automatically come back anyway but on top of that you’ve got the Tory corruption & constant **** ups & then they’ve finally got a great chance to win back the SNP seats with the chaos up there.

The Tories & SNP are putting it on a plate for Labour.

Been a good local election for the Tories. They have lost less seats than expected, the seats they lost have been split mainly between two parties and even though local elections are seen as a time to rebel against the government in power at the time, similar results would mean another coalition government.

Keir can talk it up all he wants but he should ask himself why a big portion of those leaving the Tories in droves decided to vote for Lib Dem. It's because Labour is seen as the lesser of two evils so people have gone down the ladder and gave a vote to the Libs.

Ideally all those lost Tory seats would have just gone to Labour. It's at least a little worrying that even if you don't want to vote for the Conservatives, you hate the main alternative enough to vote instead of Lib Dems or even the Green. With how bad the the Tory party are, Labour should be winning the next election by a landslide, but it could end up being another coalition. Sunak won't announce a general election until the very last minute to give himself enough time to show voters things have improved since Truss. Many expected Labour to win the last election, so we shouldn't think the next one is a foregone conclusion, as we know how people have voted in the past.

I think it’s a fair question. If the Tories are losing over a thousand councillors how many would Labour hope to pick up? I don’t know but my guess is they’d expect to pick up more of them than the Lib Dem’s / Greens have combined.

Still the main thing is the Tories have taken a hammering & I hope it’s a sign of things to come.

It's PR in local elections though, which rightly give Greens & independents a fighting chance.

A GE is first past the post, so tactical voting comes into place. Turnout too is a massive factor on the result. Hard to predict if Labour will get a Commons majority. Fairly clear to say the Tories won't. I don't think Sunak's policies will be changing anyone's minds about his party.

Or he could ask himself why they have taken control of councils such as Medway for the first time since the 1990s

Wer coming home, wer coming home, the anti Corbynites have realised the grass is no greener on the other side, and have jumped ship again to find a greener pasture, all the Conservative voters have done what Labour did and are leaving a sinking ship. the Country is foooked.
