Done well to make the championship play offs on the 1st season back especially with a average squad age of just 23 the youngest in the championship. If your good enough your old enough.
Big turnaround since Little Lee got sacked after losing 6-0 to Bolton. Morbury was a good player and he's a good manager as well.
Why? Hope Luton go up. Be nice to see a smaller side who've worked their way up, spent a million times less than everyone else who have tried to buy promotion.
Done brilliantly it has to be said. Wouldn’t normally have happened of course. Perfect storm of a comparatively weak championship this season, then appointing the right manager (he replaced Alex Neil, not Lee Johnson), and a bit of momentum. None of the four clubs in the playoffs will be making too many of the lower half of the premier league fearful for next season. I actually hope Luton go up, I think seeing the likes of City etc play at Kenilworth Road will be golden - though to be honest I’ve little against any of them going up; my step dad is a Boro fan, Coventry going up means we at least won’t lose there next season if we go up, and Sunderland have shown young players and hard work can get you somewhere so why not.
I just can’t stand them, maybe I’m bitter because they’ve taken all our best players in the past. Maybe it’s because they beat us to the title in our last promotion, maybe it’s because George Moncur acted like a dick when we loaned him out to them. Come on Sunderland, I actually think Sunderland will win.
I don't mind who goes up from the championship Sunderland have a good young squad not spent much. Carrick has done a great job at boro in a short time and Robins has done great at Coventry. Lutons is a real fairytale all I keep hearing is their grounds not good enough etc but it's no worse than Bournemouths.
I just can’t stand them, maybe I’m bitter because they’ve taken all our best players in the past. And Woodrow!
I was definitely gutted when Woodrow joined them. Top scorer for the club over the last so many decades, other than Dyer. Would have ripped league one up for us.
I remember a few years back Sunderland paid 3million for will grigg from Wigan he dropped from the championship where he wasn't really scoring. Everyone thought he would rip league one a new one and Sunderland would get top 2.... he hardly scored a goal us and Luton went up and Sunderland ****** the play offs up. Am not saying the same would have happened had cauley played in league one this season but it could well have.
You could pick out nearly every single professional footballer who has similar to that mate. Look at Adam Hammill, we loved him. Couldn't cut it for Wolves in Prem, couldn't do it for Huddersfield in championship and their fans didnt rate him one bit, but worked wonders for us. I said that based on what Woodrow had already done in his history with us
I think Woodrow would have blitzed League 1 again. As Bradshaw would have done. Some players have a natural level. As it happens I think Woodrow, Chaplin, Dagnall, Davies, Done, Hayes and Richards all had something in common. They were all "Barnsley" players. Yes I haven't lost my senses I know they all donned the red shirt. However, there natural level wasn't League 1 but it isn't the Championship either. I think since 99/00 I've only seen Dyer, Sheron, Macken, Gray, Ferenzci, Bogdanovic, Scotland, Hardwood, Chopra, Nardiello (2006/7 run-in unstoppable), Moore, Dike and Morris that have been genuine Championship forwards. None particularly prolific but had the nouse.
I think it's so harsh not involving Woodrow in that championship line up you gave. He scored more goals in the championship than all the others for us. Under Val we didn't play to his strengths but still did well, and last season people love pointing out woodrow was poor - but just seem to not give any context i.e the other 9 outfield players around him being horrendous. A striker can't score goals when he hasn't had any service. It's taken some time at Luton for him, after his confidence was probably shot from his poor showing last season and loads of stick from fans, but as Pelly said he his now coming into some form. Dislodging Morris & Adebayo was always a tough challenge for him. Genuinely believe given the right team and set up he's a solid championship striker, especially now he's entering his prime years.
