MICHAEL DUFF ON SATURDAY'S PLAY-OFF SEMI FINAL FIRST LEG Interviews Continue reading on the official site...
That confirms Mads is out for Saturday, Duff is just trying to down play it. The question is now who do we replace him with? Cundy or Williams? After the Peterborough game I would say we should opt for Cundy, put Williams back in his regular position.
Did you see Cundy at MK aftyer that game I would say he shouldnt be near a reds shirt again this season Praying that Mads is fit but if he isnt I think it has to be Williams at CH and Cotter or Benson at RWB, personally Id go Cotter but its less than ideal
Worrying but you have to play the hand you`re dealt. My instinct is to go with Cundy and revert JW to wing-back but didn`t see the MK game.
Did Cundy play on the right of the three again at MK Dons? Never really understood him in that position, would much rather him in the middle, with instruction to simply defend the ball, clear his lines etc... Almost Val like instructions, he doesn't have the mobility, or footballing ability to play one of the wider roles, which requires you to be a capable full back as well. It is a question of what is the least bad option sadly.
Yes Kitching on the left Thomas in the Middle and Cundy on the right . Not sure if swapping Thomas and Cundy would have helped but it wasnt tried
Or they know he’ll be fit but just wanting to keep them guessing? Just as likely. If we are missing Mads for the first leg it makes a tough game incredibly difficult. We shall see.
Thanks. Might not have helped on the day. But I've never really seen Cundy as wide centre half, yet that is where he plays most of his games, so shows what I know. The fact Cundy was an unused sub against Peterborough suggests that Duff sees Williams at CB and either Benson or Cotter at RWB as better options. Whichever one we go with, we will be extremely vulnerable down that side, especially as the most attacking of our midfield three is also down that side.
Back in the Simon Davies era - he played mind games with injuries all the time to keep other teams guessing. Let’s hope it’s more of that then he’s deffo out. Still, despite Mads being our best player, we’re not a one-man team. That’s the way they’ll be approaching it.
To be fair to Bolton they probably hope Mads plays too considering he gave a pen and got red carded against them last time we played them. Hopefully it’s a chance for Mads to show them what he can do.
Judging from the comments I was expecting more from the presser. All Duff says is there's a chance he'll play but they won't risk him if not ready. Fair do's. Duff is a straight-talker, I reckon Mads is 50/50. Without him.. gonna be a struggle..
