Hopefully not his or his party’s decision. But having Starmer as a possible PM I’m not too optimistic that Labour will make a different decision.
Starmer’s standard response would be to say ‘that’s not what I would have done’, but then offer no feasible alternative. I can’t help but think that too many Labour voters are more Conservative haters than backers of Labour under Starmer’s tenure. For the record, I am staunch Labour before I get labelled a Tory. But I view Starmer as a Tory in the wrong coloured tie.
There are 12 million people in the UK over 65. The ONS predicts this will grow to 18 million by 2050. Mel Stride's observations are sensible and proportionate. Paul Johnson of the IFS expresses the opinion that the pension age will need to rise sooner, while still allowing at least ten years' notice if the system is to remain sustainable. Even then, some revision of the triple lock and possibly increased taxation may well be required to keep the state system on a sound footing. I wouldn't expect Starmer to promise any magical thinking to offset these realities. Anyone who does is living in fantasy land, to my way of thinking.
What about chasing the Billions skanked by dubious Covid contracts, especially to those that didn’t even begin to deliver.

At least under Starmer there's a glimmer of hope of getting elected. As much as I liked Corbyn it was never going to happen.
Of course, if you're rich enough it doesn't really matter what the pension age is, does it? This would, I think, be the final straw for me and I would be summoning the inner Francais in me to get on the barricades. It's not as if blue collar, working class Northerners have a huge life expectancy beyond 67 anyway is it?
