Question for the old uns on here re 16th May 1951

    Was anyone at the game against Rapid Vienna at Oakwell played 72 years ago today (i.e. May 16th 1951) as part of the Festival of Britain?

    As I understand it, the Festival of Britain was a national event to celebrate/exhibit the culture of the British Isles and as part of it, the FA organised a series of matches after the end of the 1950/51 season. One of them was the Reds against Rapid Vienna and we won that game 4-2. And three days later on 19th May we played Haarlem FC from the Netherlands and won that match 6-1.

    Was anyone there? Any memories to share?
