WELCOME TO THE NORMAN RIMMINGTON STAND Club News Ahead of Friday night's crucial Play-Off fixture we are pleased to have completed work on the 'Ponty End'. Continue reading on the official site...
Great that he’s been recognised, but I still think we should have named the West after Rimmo and the Ponty after Ronnie, with the East Stand named after Big Eric
It was a fan vote to be fair. Rimmo won by a landslide. Eric came second (I voted Eric), Ronnie 3rd, Taylor 4th and Redders 5th. If we put signage on the West it'd probably fall over. The East will be next on the list I imagine, but much to ponder on where/how you'd have signage on there, as there is no obvious lip/overhang.
Happy with Norm & Barry for now. Eric should be the next in line. Ronnie Glavin was the best player I ever saw in a Reds shirt, but he wasn't a servant of the club like these people. Ronnie will always be king in my book. Redders after that for me. Depends on your age, but heritage is about long time servants in many different roles. I see that with Rimmo, Barry & Eric. The others were just brilliant players. Depends what your criteria is, I guess.
Yes longevity is key when naming stands and that probably applies to stands up and down the country. John Atyeo at Bristol City for example - long serving player but thousands of younger city fans will probably say "John who?" He was their record goal scorer and played for England.
"With such a quick turnaround between our final regular season home fixture and Friday night's Play-Off clash with Bolton Wanderers, we'd like to thank our maintenance team and grounds team who've got the signage in place ahead of Friday." Does that mean we've only done it now cos we're on the telly?
No mate. It's related to timeframes of being able to get onto the grass (at the South end) with equipment to erect signage. The extension of our season, plus the Academy's extended season left staff with such a small gap to get it done. Because there's a designated date where the pitch is dug up and the process kicks in for next season.
Can I just say on behalf of the family and I didn’t vote or try to drum up any support for the vote, I’m chuffed that Rimmo has a stand named after him. He deserves it, and having spent a significant amount of my childhood laughing at his stories I know only too well how much of a legend he is. I do hope that one day my Dad can be honoured in such a way, it would make us all immensely proud of the years he put into the club and how much passion he had for BFC but as I said before (It does make me feel uncomfortable sometimes when it becomes a vote and feels we are pitching life long friends against each other) I do think Rimmo is deserving of such an accolade. Im sure that my Dad would be honoured to come 2nd to a great man.
Thanks whitey. Next stupid question, why at the south stand not the North stand? As in problems with timing I mean?
There's an actual space between the stand and the pitch at the North end. At the South end, there is no track around it really. Ideal world, you'd slide the pitch 10 yards down towards the North.
Ah yeah good point. Have you any idea why that is? I honestly could not work at the club without asking about 10 questions each day about why is this like this or why is that like that. I bet there are quite a few weird and random things that nobody at the club can say why they are, they just are.
