Think they’ll be fine. Fact that Everton and Forest look like surviving shows how poor the bottom of the league is compared to previous years, then there’s the promoted teams as well.
A punishment designed to cover the off-season and the meaningless end to this season. The only surprise is that it didn’t start a month ago.
20 goal scorer in the premier league out till mid January would be ringing alarm bells for me. Let's see I guess.
In all seriousness, is he being helped or given support? Sounds like an addiction to me - just "punishing" him seems a bit Old Testament to me.
I was about to say the same. It appears to be the MO for any sporting sanction, especially football, to give someone a sentence, only to be halved on appeal.
If he was a poor player they would probably have terminated his contract. It’s a long ban, so I expect it will be reduced on appeal, especially now it impacts the national team.
When you think back, he came on as substitute for Fletcher at Wembley in 2016. He looked nothing but a smooth faced little boy, not the street wise bruiser he is now. Some kids grow up too quickly and not always following the legitimate path.
Meanwhile in Sky Bet League 1... Travesty of justice this. It's absurd. Football, and every professional club, has pushed gambling down the throats of anyone who watches it for as long as the game has existed. From sponsorship to players appearing in commercials, sports betting is all over football. Is there any surprise that someone brought up on football has become addicted to the product the game hawks at every opportunity.
Laughing at the idea he's somehow a hardened wrong 'un for betting on footie matches he wasn't even involved in.
There is no info on what games he has bet on. If there is a clear rule on no betting I've as much sympathy with him as anyone else that ignores professional guidelines in whatever job you do. You are on a top salary, with agents, advisors, etc. Sorry, but if he's broken the rules he needs to be banned, so others down the football pyramid realise this is no can do. Think he's a great player & can come back, no doubt. There is always time for redemption. For role models to break betting rules & get away with it is not right. Betting addiction ruins lives & if bets were loosely involved with games he was involved with, even worse.
If players being asked to endorse betting companies, don't be shocked when they use them. The ban is ridiculous.
I have to agree & disagree with you - when someone has done something against the rules, they have to be punished. The part I agree with you is, it's fairly pointless doing that if he's also not going to receive support/help. Both need to happen. As Jay says, fans & players have literally been inundated with this rubbish for years & years. Shirt sponsors, stadium sponsors, advertised on every sports channel constantly. I'm glad the new rule will be coming in shortly. I hope Toney has the right people around him, it's very easy to lose everything, very quickly, especially in his world.
