I've just been given a book about John Toshack to read while on holiday. During his time At Cardiff City while playing in Europe it talks about him having an assist to the legendary Norman Dean. I remember as a youngster watching him play for the super reds got to be early 70s. I never realised he had played for Southampton and Cardiff before wearing the legendary no 9 shirt for us. I'm sure Kev will put me straight on this Loved watching him then as a small lad in the west stand standing on a beer crate near the wall. Happy days old man with his mates stood further back screaming at the ref.
Yes he came to us from Cardiff for a fee of around £10,000. He had played recently in the European Cup Winners Cup for them so it was quite a coup to land him. Classy player. Not as good as Barrie Thomas but still a good signing
Did he wear the number 9 or am I dreaming that one up That was a substantial fee for us at that time. Arnold Dennis would have been on board then I would have thought. Jim Iley manager ??? Or too early for him.
Yes he played number nine, when selected, which wasn’t a regular thing. Too early for Jim Iley. Johnny Steele was still there, followed by John McSeveney
Iley was manager when I started going… I think he took over in 74 and served for 4/5 yrs before Clarkey came…. the next few years were amazing and never to be forgotten
Norman Dean was a very skilful number 9 and a real pleasure to watch. Unfortunately, he was greatly hampered by injuries.
You were only year above , every cloud. Font of all knowledge though so maybe it's me that's getting doddering on
Broke his leg playing for us against Doncaster rovers. Decent players with a powerful shot as I remember.
Your Chris and my lad will stick us in same care home together. Me " hey up kev ." You " I heard that pardon "
I sometime now and again get the feeling that you are wondering where we know each other from. If that is the case we were at Junior school together albeit you were year above ,you went to Whitecross my brother was year above you there I think. He wasn't the nicest of chaps not spoken with his family in years.Hooky fellow will vouch for that Our 2 eldest were in school together, he came to someof the wild parties down Ratten Row . Pirate party I was the pirate with the 70s porn star tash. Does this help ?????
