Apologies for the link to owlstalk but this is a decent read regarding our game against them at Hillsbrough Match Preview (a long read...) - Sheffield Wednesday Matchday - Owlstalk | Sheffield Wednesday News for SWFC fans
Also a decent vid here. https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/t...v-sheffield-wednesday-play-off-final-preview/ A lot of time for this bloke, obviously Wendy slanted, but usually interesting.
Aye good read that. A few of those things are still applicable, but as he mentions, we're likely to have 7 changes from the line up in that game, and a different shape. The point on Jordan Williams obviously still stands, but the one on Michael Smith having joy from corners would hopefully be nullified by Isted being better at commanding his box in comparison to Collins.
I think if he really wanted to work out how to beat us he should watch the two Exeter games. I’m surprised Exeter didn’t finish higher, because they had clearly done a lot of preparation for their matches against us. I’m surprised that Wednesday didn’t take anything off us either really, as they have the ideal weapon in Barry Bannon. Particularly on the larger pitch, he will surely keep dropping back and then play the ball in behind our defence, as he is more than capable of picking out those balls and it has caused us problems all season when teams do this. If they try playing through our midfield we will keep taking the ball off them. From our point of view, the best preparation would be to watch the first few minutes of the 1988 FA Cup final. Do to Bannan what Jones did to McMahon!
I had this same thought earlier! When other teams kick off we go for a hard press straightaway in games. Get Phillips to charge him early. Put him out if his stride and they have nothing.
a lot of them saying 'same approach as Peterborough'. I'd be very surprised if big daz goes that way. they played that way cos they had to. they had to throw everything at it from the off. very much doubt they will take such a risky approach on Monday. we won't be anywhere near as passive as posh were, and with our press, we could hammer them on the counter if they commit as many forward as they did in the 2nd leg. I genuinely don't know how to call it. I just want us to bring our best and leave everything on the pitch.
In the Revie era he would have had Paul Reaney doing a Man-for-man marking job on Bannan. Whenever Leeds played Man U Reaney followed George Best everywhere, not giving him an inch. Neither player got a kick but Man U missed Best more than Leeds missed Reaney. Maybe we could ask Phillips to follow Bannan, who isn't the most mobile player anyway
