Aside from Norwood and Watters I would have had no clue as to who else would have taken a penalty for us in the shoot out.

    I agree with you.
My feelings before and after the game are still with me now. Of course I wanted us to win but I'd got more than half a mind on the next season and the one we had last year where we knew it was a mighty struggle to even compete, let alone win many or any games.
I would have hated to go into a new season with little or no chance of doing well and end up in exactly the same position again. Obviously there is no way of knowing how things would unravel until they happen but I think we've all had a great time this year and there's every chance we can do it again.
We won 26 games. how many did we win last season? At the moment I think I know where my sentiments lie. More of the same again reds.

I totally agree. Until Refs and Var "experts" become ACCOUNTABLE during/post match for their decisions/actions I can only think that there must be some sort of match fixing going on; there can be no other explanation and the bad luck answer is laughable. At the moment these vitally important jobs are done by muppets in the main who can do exactly what they fúcking want, no ifs, no buts no one to answer to. It is simply NOT FAIR>

Are you allowed to say "coal" these days? I wonder what pronoun it would take; nutty, slack, lump, large nuts, small nuts, ?

There is absolutely no conspiracy against us. Why would there be? Because we're a smallish club? If that's the case how did Blackpoll and Burnley and Luton make it to the Premier League? How did Rotherham get into the Championship?
To think there is an agenda against us is to disregard the huge level of incompetence at the EFL. They don't give a **** about inept refereeing. About accountabilty. About fit and proper persons tests. About ridding the game of cheats. They are a complete and utter disgrace and contine to fail the game on a weekly basis. THAT'S what they keep getting away with and they don't care a jot as long as nobody rocks the apple cart and interferes with the money keeping rolling into the trough.

To be honest I was gutted yesterday but I'm fine today. Having given up my season ticket for the first time in over 25 years this season I do feel disconnected.
I have fallen out of love with football a lot over the years and all I had left was bfc.
Football is now a game where 22 players roll around pretending to be injured and generally trying to con the referee, who is usually incompetent beyond belief.
    Maybe I'm not over yesterday.......

Some good points on this thread. I especially like what Dave said. 300 minutes of football against them and they were in the lead for 3 seconds.

I too am okay with yesterday. Devastating for the lads on the pitch, who had given everything. We just needed to boot the ball up to the halfway line, but it wouldn’t drop for us. And although we couldn’t easily name the 5 takers for us, Isted was playing out of his skin, so I’d have fancied him to save a couple.

But we cannot be anything less than proud about how our players and coaches reacted to the red card. Many teams would have parked the bus, but we took the game to them. Our fans too, after half time you wouldn’t have known the Wednesday fans were still there.

Your best ever post my friend. Great to hear those sentiments. When people talk of proper fans....you're one of them.
I'm gathering my thoughts for a post because, for some bizarre reason I want to share, on here, the absolutely enormous pride I felt leaving Wembley yesterday.

Perhaps. But there were no outrageous decisions. And no technology.

I was screaming and shouting at the tv screen like most of us yesterday, but obviously not at our players. It was the usual baffling decision making of the officials although that linesman that belatedly wiped the smiles off their faces was brilliant. If only he could have seen some reason to disallow Windfarm’s goal as well. Feet too high off the ground maybe?

But today I’m calm again and looking forward to whatever the summer and next season brings. I’ve loved watching us blow most teams away this season and hope we do the same again. I’m not in in the “ale house league” camp - far from it. There’s some good football played at L1 level and I expect plenty more especially from our team.

Let those clowns in the striped pyjamas have their WAWAW fun (sickening watching it). They’ll be turning on Big Dave again soon enough.

Im sure there isnt an active conspiracy but you have to ask why we were never given a penalty all season except when after complaining about it we were given one token one in a game we had already won
Id like someone to give an explanation as to how we had several very clear penalties not given to us even when VAR is involved for one of them
    - That one I can see why it wasnt given by the ref at the time but totally no understanding as to how VAR didnt ask him to take a second look
We even had games where softer penalties were awarded against us than clear ones that we should have had - twice V Accrington if I recall correctly
if it was purely down to incompetent officials we would have had at least some go our way
What can be the reason I'm genuinely baffled

I think that having had to console a 12-year-old boy on the train back to Amersham yesterday, meant that I didn’t really get upset.
My reasoning for not being upset is that I was more upset when we didn’t beat Swansea in the playoff semi-final and didn’t get to Wembley because I was prepared for the club to be run a certain way in order that we got results and potentially got promoted to the Premier League obviously now that probably wouldn’t have helped in the long term because the previous board would’ve just taken all the money out.
I think I was better prepared to deal with the loss yesterday, knowing that there is a better chance we will not collapse into financial freefall by staying in league one for another season as compared to 3 years ago when we last promoted from league one.

Just off the top of my head I can think of:

    - Aitchison shoved in the back on the first day
    - Derby player throwing himself to the ground in his own box and grabbing the ball before the ref blew his whistle
    - Cole bundled over at Accrington
    - Norwood fouled at home to fleetwood
    - blatant handball at burton

That’s 5 without looking others up, that cost us 7 points, then yesterdays which I think cost us promotion.

    Absolutely sickening

It's just the sheer frustration at the incompetence of the match referee and the VAR officials. If those decisions are in a game involving Man City there's a 99% chance that the ref will be instructed to take a closer view on the pitch side monitor. But as it's only little old Barnsley it really doesn't matter, we just have to suck it up. Then it's who it's against that makes it doubly difficult to take.
How many last kick goals have they got against us in the last 30 or so years.....Palmer, Di Canio, Brunt, McGuire and now Windass. Those are the ones I can remember anyway.
It's a tough one to take and feels only slightly better today than it did at 5.45 yesterday.

Last week I read somewhere that it's about 20 years since they lost 3 times to the same team in a season. Jammiest club in football.
